Tequila, Parfait Amour, Fernet-Branca
Umm, I know this melange of unfriendly ingredients sounds straight up funk-nast, but if you happen to have the shit lying around in your bar: MEXICAN ART FILM 2 oz Tequila silver 1/3 oz Parfait Amour 1 1/3 tsp Fernet-Branca All hardware chilled. Stir ingredients with ample ice, as with a gin Martini...

Re: Maker's Mark -3% ABV
Southern Comfort did the same thing around roughly 2001 or 2002. 38% went down to 35%. It definitely was ersatz compared to the original dilution. Yes, yes, I know, they released the 100 proof for us alkies, so I took to buying a bottle of each and mixing them until I got something close to the orig...

Re: Purple Orchid - El Segundo, CA.
I've been to the Purple Orchid. (The tiki bar, not the strip joint.) It's fine, and always nice to have a tiki place in your hood. Some colleagues and I used to go here after work. Re: Your own bar?
No bar. I have a lounge. The liquor stays in the kitchen, the drinking stays in the lounge. It is equipped with bad '70s lighting, furniture from the likes of 'Clockwork Orange,' 6 feet of vinyl records w/turntable, and a shag rug sculpture on the wall. Oh, and the proverbial glass and chrome coffee...

Re: Falernum
Falernum is basically for the old, original Tiki drinks. I don't think it's worth the hunt for falernum if you have a good orgeat lying about, and it's frankly funky sipped on its own. The John D.Taylor's falernum is especially flavorless and the bottle cap is too ramshackle to screw back on.

Rittenhouse is free flowing again after a couple years, it seems. Just me and the bottled-in-bond, delish. . . .

Re: Drunk dial Thread
Drunk dialing on a rotary phone takes lots of skillz and patience (gin, actually).

Re: Back to the 70s
Oh god, YES!!!, you mean! I openly order and consume these at any bar that will indulge me. You can't offend anybody if you aren't doing it in public.Savage wrote:oh god, Harvey Wallbangers
