Re: How are you all fixed for Halloween?

Sounds awesome. What are you conferring about? Who else will attend? Will your room turn into the conference`s party destination? It should be fun. The conference itself will be boring from a fun POV. Industry best practice etc. My room will definitely not be party HQ. I’m going up by myself and do...

Re: How are you all fixed for Halloween?

I’m gunna be at a conference on the Sunshine Coast. Staying at a resort on the 30th and 31st. There’s a welcome reception the first night and a Halloween-themed dinner etc. the second. Drinks will be put on by the sponsors; only wine and beer though. Still, looking forward to it. Gunna get a bottle ...

Re: Old Virginia Bourbon

Yeah, the brand name is Old Virginia. It says that in big letters. Underneath, in smaller letters, it says Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. I think it’s French-owned and aimed at the French market. Apparently it’s the biggest-selling bourbon in France. The question is not why it’s bottled in Franc...

Old Virginia Bourbon

Do they sell much of this in the US? I bought a bottle because it was on special and thought it was OK. I looked it up and apparently it’s made in Kentucky but bottled in France. Slightly spicy. I bought another bottle because it’s still on special. I’m going to drink some soon with Leo (Thai) beer;...

Re: Single Malt is best

32 is rape at the carshier! 20 something in germany Everything is priced like that in Oz nowadays. Foreign beer is cheaper than shitty Aussie beer etc. Spirits are the least value for money. Wine can be cheap; but only at the unpalatable end of the spectrum. Presumably we’re teetering on the cliff ...

Re: Single Malt is best

Single malt is great. But in Australia, it doesn’t really work out cost-benefit wise. Low end SM is generally twice the price of a half decent blend. For example, right now at Dan Murphy’s the best deal on SM is Bushmills 10 at $56. There’s Glen Moray for $42 but I dunno if that even counts. It does...

Re: Comfort Drinks

Drinking beer from a 750ml. In NZ, a wooden crate of a dozen longnecks used to be one of the most common ways to buy beer. As a student, standing around sipping from one outside on a sunny day was part of the scenery. Also, while I was single living in Sydney, buying and drinking a longneck while I ...

Re: Drunk Travel Log

Sounds fantastic. I’ve been a bit suspicious about NO because my friend got mugged there; and my brother was drinking in a bar there when a guy who’d just been stabbed stumbled in bleeding all over the place. So, I figured it was kinda rough. Algiers Point looks pretty cool, though. I’ll have to put...

Re: Beer, Bourbon and BBQ Fest 2019

That looks really fun. But, did you go in winter? Barbq in winter seems a bit odd. I see there’s one in Knoxville in July. That would be cool.

Re: 2018 Vegas Trip

Thanks for the report Artful, but... umm... you all go to Vegas and we get a story about pancakes and hash browns? Sounds like you were really bouncing off the walls! We all made a pact to never discuss certain things that may or may not have happened. There was a lot of urine involved, and even so...

Re: FAVORITE BEER (high-end/low-end)?

So disappointed. No Coopers Stout? I love that shit if I can ever find it. Nice licorice crack and easily swillable. I was thinking tap beer. With takeaways there’s a lot more choice. Generally Aust beers are not the cheapest and Coopers is semi-craft. However on tap Coopers Green is widely availab...
