I don't know if they still do but the Trader Joe's chain in the SoCal area used to run specials on Tomatin...@$18 for a 750ml. I can't remember if it was the 12yo (it was probably something younger) but when the special was on you often had to hit several Trader Joe's before you could locate a bottle and it didn't take long for it to sell out.

Prolly the 12, not sure there is a younger one, i love the Tomatin but the 12yo is a bit average in comparison to the others.

Just finished off my Laphroaig Triple Wood...gonna spring for the Laphy 18 soon. Apparently the Dutch liquor store chain (Mitra -- which I nip across the border to patronize several locations) is getting some Lagavulin 12 in after New Year's.

It doesn't get much better than the Lappy 18 and the Laga 12. A fine brace to adorn any shelf of whisky bottles. Enjoy.

One of the best things about the Christmas period is that supermarkets tend to have a bunch of drink offers. This gives me the opportunity to sample some things that are normally out of my price range. First up is Jura Elixir Fruity and Spicy with hints of cinnamon and citrus. Normally I steer clear of whisky with added flavours, but I am curious to see how this goes down.

Hey Kowalski, theres nowt added to the Elixir - it's a single malt. Added flavours are not allowed, they're just the tasting notes you're reading. It is a limited edition and well priced, i tried to get one but the Sainsbury's near me aren't stocking it. Annoying as it's a Sainsbury exclusive and reduced to £13 for the half.

Hey wait, the realization just dawned on me that the Limey actually leaves in Europe. How come so many Eurodrunkards never show up for CCCs, hum, ca you explain that to our drunkard hearts? Don't you know you all make distillers beer brewers and wine makers cry hum? Don't you know that each time you don't come to a CCC the dries smile an rejoice with tea or hot coco?

Thanks, that's interesting to know. It's nice, but not one of my favourites. It's the only Jura I've tried so far so I am going to look for others. I prefer whisky on the smokey, peaty side - like Laphroig or Talisker, if you have any recommendations?

And I'd catch that Caol Ila with my mouth.

Top whisky. Stick with it, it's quite smooth for the 60% it has, and it will calm down after a while.
