Alcohol a depressant? I think not.

Post by Henry Chinaski »

I was depressed until I had my third drink. By myself. At the bar. Nobody there to cheer me up but Jack. Suddenly I was a goddamn prince. I was the happiest motherfucker in the world. Where do they get off preaching that bullshit?

Drinking is the happiest solution to the depression that tears daily at our souls.
Cheers.

It keeps the desperation and the imperfection of the world at bay. It allows us to see the beauty in everything; the lights sparkle just a little more, and the dirt bothers us less, we judge less, accept more, we are friendlier, nicer, better, more honest people.

Cheers for the beauty that is the drink.

In fact sometimes life is so beautiful, I can't get out of bed and it gives me a headache.

Quotation:

I try always to be in touch with my inner self; some days, my inner self and I don't even get out of bed, but we don't let this impede our drinking.

The depressing part comes after the alcohol, when your alarm goes off at 6:30 after a night/morning of heavy drinking, and not only are you expected to get out of bed, but also bathe yourself, put on nice clothing, and drive somewhere where you have to stare at a computer screen.

Goddammit, I am so tempted to call in today. Mmmm...going back to bed...
I've been here, I've been there, I've been everywhere...and your well still tastes like shoes. I'll take another.

Why stop at today? I'm calling in sick on behalf the remainder of my life.
Now what is a good excuse?
Ahh yes, apathy!

Drinking helps you deal with the pain of being a man, or a woman.

Alcohol doesn't change any bad problems or situations you have in your life. It may prolong you from doing something about them.
I drink to celebrate. I have so many in life. I celebrate making it through the end of the day, I celebrate paying my cable bills so I can watch Lucy and drink martinis, I celebrate the weekends because I can sleep late, I celebrate 24 hour markets... So much to celebrate, so little time.
Relief. Release. Deliverance.

i celebrate opening a beer, or a bottle of booze
Still just figuring it all out. Still not really figuring it out.

When I get depressed, I don't want to drink. I think I enjoy the melencholy. I associate drinking with fun and good times and laughing and dancing. And then passing out.
And they say her flower is faded now
Hard weather and hard booze
But maybe that's just the price you pay
For the chains you refuse
