Don't get me wrong, I love 'em both. I just prefer the more caramel-y flavor of Beam Black to the heavy corn notes of WT101. I do think the Turkey makes a better Manhattan, though. I don't know exactly how to explain it, I just find the Beam Black to be a little... bourbon-y-er... if that makes sense.

Slightly longer version: It's been a while since I had it, but from what I recall, I think the heavy rye content gives an interesting flavor, and it's smoother than a lot of 90 proofs out there. It's not a Bourbon I choose to buy on a regular basis, but that's more about cash than taste.

Just a taste preference. Maybe it's the ice.
True, the Black has a more caramel taste, which I do adore as well, just not as much as the corn of the 101. Don't get me wrong though, the Black is up there on my list of mid-range Bourbons. Way up there.
As far as Bulleit, I enjoy it but it's a little soft for a 90 proof whiskey. I expect a little more kick, I used to buy it all the time but right now - it's been replaced.

I drank a lot of bourbon (Grandad 100) when I was younger, but in my mid-30's, I developed a taste for scotch, so I tend to like the softer bourbons these days. I like the Bulleit, but haven't found it over here (Belgium).
I gotta say, though, WT 101 is tough to beat taste/value/kick-wise.
At my local supermarket, I've got my eye on a Talisker single-malt that's over-proof at 57% abv. Trouble is, it's 58 euros (@ $81usd) for a 700ml and I'm not paying that without a taste. Trouble is, I can't find a bar that has it and the market doesn't do tastings.

Talisker! Is it the Distiller's Edition? I had a few glasses of that at this high end place out here. It's wonderfully pricey, but wonderfully worth it as well.
Usually EW Black, the world's finest utility and my goto bourbon. Once in a while Ten High. Once in a while Sailor Jerry. I just can't bring myself to flask Makers or WT101, I prefer to enjoy these friends at home in a more sophisticated fashion. I guess for me flasking is more of a maintenance buzz option or being surreptitious in a movie theatre or at a baseball or soccer game or waiting at a bus stop or jury duty or grocery shopping or at an outdoor music event or getting the mail.
