To start off the night, we always sing "I gotta get pissed drunk" by Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and George Jones. At the end of the night, we finish up with the Irish standard "The parting glass". Whenever I hear those songs outside of a drinking context, I always get thirsty...

Eh, when it does come about, various numbers by GG Allin dominate, and they're genuinelly done in a grindcore manner. That old song "Champange Charlie" comes up once in a while, as does "Skull Fucked" by dying fetus for some odd reason.

When in the preperation stage any up tempo drinking song would do for me like some Flogging Molly, Pogues, Dropkick Murphys, The Business, Hank III...
When staggering back home if I'm not already there the more slow tempo songs like the classic "Fuck you I'm drunk" or that kind of stuff.

edit: That is when with a group. When alone just the slower stuff by Tom Waits or the good country stuff like DAC, Hank III, Johnny Cash or George Jones

Depending on your mood, George Jones' 'The King is Gone (And So Are You) has always been an underrated favorite of mine....can't go wrong with any number of Irish standards, nor their American progeny.

edit: the last time i drank with metalheads was incredible. a dude on guitar and a dude on drums playing sick death metal in a basement while me and two long-haired dudes headbanged for like an hour with a toast every few minutes then back to headbanging. it was awesome.

Eh, I say it's either old Country or Deaht Metal for encouraging binge drinking to the max.... I mean, Hank is good drinking music, but with Death Metal you can step outside to vomit and "sing" at the same time, and it sounds metal. Everyone else outside applauds your growl... giving a wonderful reason to go get a few more shots of beam.

GG Allin! Hell yeah! Well, I come from sort of a Black Metal and punk milieu. I had one place I liked to go to, where we would be a bunch of friends listening til Black Metal, Outlaw Country, 60's girl pop, good old rock 'n roll etc. But what I REALLY, REALLY enjoyed was going to my another friend's house: He lived a bit outside town, and I used to walk over the hills along a dirt path to get to his house on the hillside. There we would listen to a shitload of crazy-assed folk music and experimental. He played in a band that covered great celtic bands like The Pogues, Wolfe Tones and The Dubliners, called "The Ranting Paddies From Hades On Drunken Rambles", and his friend from that band used to come over with his fiddle and we would sing, jam and scream and scream all night. Everything from Fairport Convention to Current 93 to Robert Johnson to Daniel Johnston and Diamanda Galas. One of the best nights was actually when he put on a 35 minute long sound collage designed to be the soundtrack to the black plague which killed off three fifths of the population over here.
