Old Grand Dad 114 proof

Post by ElvisStelth »

I can't do a review with flowery bullshit language like "it has a hint of leather and caramel"(what the fuck does that mean anyway?) I drink lots of Bourbon and when I can get it I like Old Grand Dad 114, best. For a frame of reference, my go-to booze is Wild Turkey 101 and my cheap assed choice is Old Crow. I hate Maker's Mark and I don't think 4 Roses is very good. If your sensibilities are similar to mine, try OGD 114.

It means we actually taste it from time to time, instead of slamming it for the sake of slamming it, every time.

well that sure is something. not only for retarded alcholy policies but for the fact as well that Turku is generally outside of it in finland considired 'the asshole of the country'
The club is called "Graceland" and it's a Elvis/1950s-themed bar. Friendly owner, good whisky selection, nice vibe and a drinking audience.

diggin up an older post here, but this thread makes me realize that although bourbon is my go to liquor, my range is severely limited. i would post a review, however all of my favorites are already posted. i am particularly impressed by ivan's review of ezra brooks, which is my favorite. thanks to this thread i will be expandin my bourbon knowledge in my next trip to the liquor store.

I recently bought a bottle of Bakers 7yr after being told how good it was, I was dissapointed. i only tried it neat, i will give it another try on the rocks and see if that releases any flavors. honestly though, i think EW is better.

Hoss, buy something you like, and post your own review. That's the spirit of this thing. I mean, just because I posted a review of a Bourbon, that doesn't mean nothin'. I'm not the be-all, end-all of Bourbon knowledge.

I'm with you on this one. Baker's feels like it hasn't arrived yet, it's not bad but nothing really jumps out at you, and with Booker's being just a few dollars more, why waste your time and hard earned money on Baker's?

Ivan, about the Ten High review you posted a while back.... I think a number of stores in town still have the original unblended Ten High on their bottom shelves.... at least I couldn't see the "a blend" on the label.

Dont know that I'm adding anything new here, but one of the smoothest bourbons I've ever tasted was the Eagle Rare 10-year-old. All the more impressive since its 90 proof. Sometimes the strong spirits have a heavy astringency that causes your jaw to tighten if you let it touch the sides of your tongue.

However, you can practically gargle the Eagle Rare. Shame it's not chuggable price.

Drinkin' the Heaven Hill tonight--really good stuff. It's 50 cents cheaper than my go-to, EW green label, so still under $10.
