I didn't say they were my friends.

my favorite way to drink gin is warm, straight, no chaser.

I can't be sure if it's my favorite way or just the way I've been doing it for no reason.

I like gin. I don't generally slop in to my glass and guzzle in neat, but aside from that, i put it away in lots of different forms. with fruit juices, with tonic, soda, martinis, rocks with a twist--gin is great. It gave us terms like gin mill, gin joint, gin soaked, and a wonderful lady in singapore. Love me my gin.

I've converted legions of gin haters into gin (fizz) lovers by serving them endless gin fizz. Of course, almost impossible to find a gin fizz at a bar,and it would be nigh crappy if you did, so so.... it's a laborious labor of lushy laborly love.

Gin's alright. Doesn't compare to good whiskey, but it's A-ok.
Getting drunk was good. I decided that I would always like getting drunk. It took away the obvious and maybe if you could get away from the obvious often enough, you wouldn't become obvious yourself - Bukowski

Gin? Sure, it's tastes good. But, I've had to give it up. You know, since I was arrested after drinking many, many gins at the local honky tonk. I was also 86'd. Hey, 2 birds and all! Now I drink anything else. I prefer scotch or bourbon.

P.S. you have never been shamed until you have been 86'd from a honky tonk! Time cured and all that crap. They love me there today. AT least, that's my impression. Tip well, live to drink another day.

I love Gin the person, and have a love/hate relationship with Gin the spirit. Sometimes I can't even be in the same room with it, and sometimes there is nothing better than a G&T. Ever since I did a warm shot with a Geordie some years ago it's been this way.

On a sweltering hot day, a G&T with a dash of bitters and a twist of lime will occasionally be the coldest-tasting drink on the planet.

Not every time, but more often than not. Absolute refreshment.

I thought Coors Light is the coldest tasting drink.

I used to hate gin. I just couldn't bear the taste of it, untill, by complete accident, a friend actually presented my with a bottle of quality gin. I was reluctant at first, since I'd rather drink ether than most gin's I had tasted by that time, but this one was so great it immediately transformed me from a gin hater to a gin lover. Eversince that day, gin has become an important part of my liquor supply.
Don't be undrunk my son. It serves no cause.

I must say; a female friend of mine brought me some Sax Dry Gin from Bosnia as a souvenir, I just tried a sip, and god damn it's good stuff! Much softer and delicate than the Gordon's stuff I'm used to. I suddenly realized I'm just a beginner in the world of the beverage called gin. Anybody help me out, what brands are you drinking/would you recommend for a beginner like me?

Cheers and thanks!

Well, I've already posted about my new love, seagram's distillers reserve. It's nice and subtle, but very strong. This was the result of me scowering the liquor store trying to get the best for my money of performance and flavor.

Has anyone figured out why real drunkards tend to only (or primarily) drink gin and/or whiskey?

My guess would be that there are a lot of high-proof quality gins and bourbons. The only other type of liquor with a notable selection of 80+ proof bottles is rum, but the only real options are the 151/160 proof rums. Most of those aren't worth drinking because they're artificially flavored with caramel and other shit. Also- gin and bourbon both have a history of being the "bad boys" of the spirit world.

I don't like many things too cold, but not much can beat ice-cold gin on a 110 degree Central California day, straight out of the freezer.

I think you hit the nail on the head. It's really quite a chore to keep up the lifestyle with tolerance growing and tastebuds wanting more fire. Once you're tearing down a 30 rack of beer, a few bottles of wine or a fifth of 80 proof vodka in a session, high-proof gin or bourbon is about the best choice for efficiency.

and maybe there's more to it, like the different kinds of "drunk" they lead to. It could all be bullshit, but gin-drunk is functioning drunk to me.
