All drinking styles are represented on this board, as they should be, but this question goes out to daily drinkers.
For whatever reason, have you ever just drank 2-3 standard drinks in a 24 hour period and referred to is as not drinking/taking a break?
I used to tell my drunkard friends(who drank alot, but less often, than I) that I "barely drank that day". They thought it was hilarious, but to me it made perfect sense. For a drunkard, a nightcap(or eye-opener, however you get yours), with nothing else in the day, is not drinking, it's baseline.
P.S.
I've played with it before, and no one should insist on 100% abstinence. Alcohol may be very addictive, but it's one of the only drugs that can be cut back fairly easily. I think anyone here could get down to 3 drinks a day(only if need be, of course). Try telling a cig smoker or heroin user they have to make it on 3 doses a day!

Re: question
I think I have said it before, but 6 or so drinks in a day is maintenance.
If I had 5 or 6 drinks, and someone asks me if I drank last night the answer is no.
Drinking is drinking. The unschooled do not understand maintenance.

Getting drunk was good. I decided that I would always like getting drunk. It took away the obvious and maybe if you could get away from the obvious often enough, you wouldn't become obvious yourself - Bukowski
Re: question
drinking = getting drunk. So, if I just had 2 glasses of wine with my food, or a brew before I go to bed, that's not drinking imo.
Don't be undrunk my son. It serves no cause.

Re: question
my OWN PERSONAL mainentance amount is 2-4 drinks. I'm not telling anyone to cut back, you guys are mighty suspicious like you've been smoking the loco weed instead of drinking the crazy water. I was just curious and you already answered my question- Yes, you do refer to your maintenance amount as not drinking.
I drink everyday and I drink to get drunk more than once a week, I'm a drunkard. If I'm a lightweight(and there is evidence of such) that doesn't hurt my feelings whatsoever.

Re: question
I'm new (hi Timo!) but I'd have to agree with the folks that less than 4 drinks doesn't really constitute drinking. I mean, I usually have a beer when I go to lunch. But nobody accuses me of drinking on the job, nahmean? It don't count unless they can smell it on you.

Re: question
Yes. Yes, I have. I realise that most people see 3 drinks a night as moderate to somewhat heavy drinking, but to me it is almost nothing. Blah blah blah, fucksocks...I'll have a little more Jäger then go to bed. It's 10 after midnight. I'm not shitfaced but close to tipsy. Pleasantly relaxed. Everything is relaxed, including my tongue and whatever part of my brain is responsible for VERY blues/jazz thoughts. I should just shut the FUCK up now.
