Re: Rediscovering scotch whisky
Since the new Maker's hasn't made it's way out here yet, I've decided to drown my sorrows with this
Glenlivet Nadurra 16 year
108.4 proof! Booyah!

This is much much much much better than anything Makers Mark could ever produce.
Next step: Glenmoranjie (or whatever the spelling) single cask.

Re: Rediscovering scotch whisky
Finally found a place carrying the 46 in DC last week. Drinking it neat with some MGD back. Tastes quite similar to WT101 to my tongue, maybe a bit "brighter" if that makes sense.

Dude Bowmore 12 year old was the first single malt i ever tried i loved the stuff great smokiness.Fabricsoftner wrote:Glenfiddich was the first single malt I ever tried. I remember being shocked at how profound the flavors were. I haven't tried many single malts, but Bowmore 12 is my favorite so far. Doesnt taste anything like glenfiddich,it's very smoky, but its something you should definitely try if you can find it.

Re: Rediscovering scotch whisky
Glenmorangie Port Finish. A nice place to start your first jab at the scotch family. A little pricey...Tasting notes from Whiskey Magazine:
Tasting Notes
Michael Jackson
Nose
Pronouncedly fruity (raisins, cherries?) and winey.
Palate
The sweetness and smoothness could obtrude at first, enwrapping the delicate dimensions of Glenmorangie, but eventually the two elements blend in sensuous fashion.
Finish
Soothing, soporific, relaxing.
Comment
Do you smoke after sex? No I have a port finish.
Doug McIvor
NoseDelicate orange blossom at first then soft brine seeping through.
Palate
Soft gentle, barley sugars with occasional salty and sherbety highlights.
Finish
Reasonably long, some lingering sweetness and late spice.
Comment
The best behaved of the trio. Most would expect the portwood to be the big gun. [refering to the 3 finishes they once offered - Port, Sherry, Madiera]
My personal favorite - Oban. A "West Highland" Malt that sits between the peaty malts of the Isles and the sweeter malts of the Highlands.
