I know, just not used to anything over 40%, and the taste is pretty smooth

After the Jura Elixer I went for a bottle of Jura Superstition - much more my thing. It's really nice - a bit lighter than Talisker and very drinkable. I had a look for Ardberg but couldn't see it. Sainsburys have still got offers on a bunch of spirits so I am going to try and make the most of it :-)

Jura is lovely, and it's always cheap. I always think of it as the halfway point between Irish and Scotch in taste, perfect for most peoples tastes

You'll like Jura Prophecy. Not cheap but considered the finest Jura currently, and the peatiest.

Unfortunately Ardbeg is getting difficult to find, demand is beginning to outstrip supply, also it's getting pricey. Waitrose stock the standard 10 year old, other than that is the whisky shops or online only. Caol Ila is a friendlier priced alternative malt.

I've had a good christmas as far as acquiring new whiskies goes, first up my dad brought me 2 bottles of bowmore 15 yr old back from a trip to islay, then I used the discounts in the supermarkets to get a glen moray, glen grant & glenfiddich 12yr old very cheaply, and I was given a dalmore 12yr old & a bottle of monkey shoulder as gifts. happy days!

I have never been a scotch drinker, but the other day i was at costco and the old lady offered to buy me a bottle, so i wanted to get something different so i decided to go for some scotch. I picked up a bottle of The Macallan 12yr, and damn was that some good whisky! I may have to start getting into scotch, what other lables are similer to this one?

You should probably try to approach that from an other angle: what are the flavours you really liked in that whiskey, from there we can advise a thing or the other easier. Now if you liked Macallan, you'll probably like Cardhu too.

For starters, Macallan is a sherried whisky, and it is an unpeated Scotch. Although they do some very light sherried styles these days. I'd try some GlenDronach, Glenfarclas, Royal Lochnagar, Mortlach, and Daluaine. (In that order). Many will also say Dalmore but it leaves many divided. It's fashionable for distilleries to release different styles these days, so basically any unpeated Scotch Malt with a sherry influence may fit the bill.

Macallan is generally difficult to beat for it's style but GlenDronach are good competition for them, they have been taken over by new owners who know what they're doing.
