a trip to my favorite candy store: net results

Post by Patchez »

So before the unemployment funds dwindle too low, I decided to make a trip to my favorite candy store. It's a bit of a haul for picking up hooch but well worth the 36 mile one way trip. The PA state store system just has a general lack of enthusiasm for the liquor business. So I drive to a little nugget down in MD. The manager and all the clerks know and love booze in all it's glorious forms. I went because the last email news letter stated that the had hand selected a full barrel of Buffalo Trace. The also stated that said barrel got them 44 cases of B.T. Barrel Select. What they did was had four samples from four separate barrels sent to the store. The guys tasted and hand selected the barrel proof that they liked. They sampled it straight and with a little water, knowing it would be proofed down. They found one they liked and had the whole barrel made into a special hand select for their customers. Then they sent the savings to us as well. Only $19.99.

$20 bucks a fifth. Not bad. I bought one. Hell they have a shit load.
So as I'm bullshitting with the manager he points out that they did this same thing last fall with Elijah Craig. He said the had it at $24 bucks a bottle but were trying to get rid of the last 15 or so bottles and had that also at $20 bucks a fifth. So I grabbed one of those.

This led to a discussion of white whiskey, which was right beside the Elijah Craig display. The recommended the Wasmunds stuff. I bought one of each. $21 bucks and $23 bucks respectively.

Then I decided I needed a little scotch for balance. I picked up some Bowmore on a fellow paintballer's word that is was a really good scotch for the price, $56 bucks.

All told my total was 5 decent bottles for $151 and some change. A really good trip and worth it for the extra effort.

like the look of the white whiskey. Also, seems a pretty good price for all of it, if the exchange rate's what I think it is

Deliciousness, I don't want to even think where the price would've landed here.

You gotta move. I've never lived more than walking distance from the candy store.

I live much closer to "other" candy stores, but the guys running this particular one have a singular love of drinking good things, so it makes the haul worth it. I always come back with something interesting. I just hit the other ones when I know what I'm in the mood for.

My wife works at the same place I was until recently employed. So once a month or so i go and have lunch with her down that way. I always manage to hit the candystore on the way home. Imagine that. Infact, now that I am again gainfully employed, I'm long over due for a little lunch date.
