Go to drink

Post by oettinger »

Do you have one?
I for example drink a drink for a whole year and then get sick of it or discover a new one I suddenly like more to drink.
It`s like music, you can listen to a song or an album to death, then never listen to it again. But there are some you can always fall back onto when there`s no other way out. Those give you the warmth only a so called "mother drink" can give you. You feel home again, the safe lab of said liquor is a welcomed sight in a troubling world!
Mine is the bloody mary. Althougt I am currently working on the lemon mixes for months now, I surely know I will be back crying in her liquid pillow when every other drink betrayed me again.
Drink!

I am a man of variety. I like to have something different every round. If I'm really stuck though, I go back to Irish whiskey, blended or malt

Beer always works for me, & a nice dry white wine, but yeah, bloody marys have been my go to cocktail since i was a student. I generally dont have more than one though. Not much of a cocktail drinker. Thats gunna change though. In a few weeks im gunna start messing about with triple sec & everything. Apertifs as a saturday evening ritual.

I haven't been without beer everyday for fifteen years now. Now, not a lifelong binge, more like a lifestyle choice. But drinking, I mean, not just sipping now and throughout the day (black rum) but for actual, real, party time drinking, I like me some Trace. It tastes damn fine and never gives me grief. Ever. Sorry, I really don't mix things all that much, except now, evidently, I like a Bombay Martini and the whole production of its creation.

Brandy. Neat.

Never fails me. Even if it's cheap brandy...

To Hungary? No, unfortunately.

My over-seas experience is limited to mainland Japan and a weekend in Perth, Australia.

My go to is usually a local IPA and a shot of whiskey.

Whisky, Vodka, Rum. I suppose these are the stable ones. Everything else rolls by as whims come and go.

Gin is my go-to. I enjoy the other ones in rotation, but I'm never not in the mood for a good gin. Whereas, some days I won't feel like a whisk(e)y, rum, tequila, mezcal, brandy, whatever, but gin always does the trick.

Been getting more into potato vodka lately, but it takes up space in my freezer. Gin doesn't. I don't chill it (unless icing it in a martini), because that closes up all the flavors. Another reason why vermouth is an important part of a martini. None of that glancing at a bottle of vermouth for me or waving in the general direction of France. And of course, olives.

Now I want a martini...
