Its not completely lonely, of course, as there is soft music, the noise of the spouse in the background, and ye olde Interwebz. Its even better when nothing has to be done the next day which, alas, is the exception.

In my younger, wilder days I was down with the silly drinking, the social drinking, the dating drinking or ... well, I loss my train of thought. Now, listening to some old blues tunes, the rain on the roof, and a sipping a damn good Scotch is hard to beat.
I'm still young, but this is my s--t.

A whole lot of drinks over the course of the day, some jazz and Tom Waits, and now I feel a wonderful coma coming on, that will last into the late morning of Christmas.

Maybe not my favorite drunk, but a favorite for sure, when that war of attrition against undrunkenness is slowly surrendered as the shadows grown long.

Merry Christmas, indeed.

sometimes, under certain circumstances, my first drink is really special. say i had a really stressful day, or feeling nervous or anxious, or possibly (comparatively) early morning, beginning to get the shakes. my weapon of choice is a double straight brandy, immediatelly chased by a swig of ice cold coke to sooth the liver (maybe it doesnt sooth as much as fools it). the guys at my local even christened that way of drinking after me (i know thats a dubious honour to say the least, but hell, i earned my stripes).
the point being, when the right criteria are met for that "special feeling", this is what it feels like: im usually behind the wheel (i never stay long at my local, do most of my drinking at home), sun's getting down, my windows are rolled down, fitting soundtrack, and then it comes.... its like a warm wave, begins at the back of my neck and stars spreading, first through my arms and then everywhere....
a feeling of empowering happiness ensues, i feel - and i quote something i just saw in this very forum - taller, wiser, sexier....
not always easy sustaining that feeling tho
gets harder with age, i find
or maybe im just not drinking enough

i should hasten to add that, whilst im often behind the wheel when i experience that rush, it's always on my way home. i do not drive under the influence or condone it in any way shape or form.

Mine is when the music starts groovin' and you can't help but blast the neighbors with loud drunk-sloppy guitar at 4 in the morning.

Introspective while listening to Tom Waits is always good, but often it slips into depressed Mark Lanegan territory too easily.

When bf leaves before dinner to hang out with friends, and I get 6 hours alone with a box of red wine. I turn the music way up, disappear into the internet or into my creative woman cave. I somehow always emerge refreshed.

I think the colloquial term is "bucket pussy".

I've always preferred the saying "a hotdog down a hallway".
