Whereupon one frigid January day some 25 years ago, a drunk of lesser age and more gumption took snowshoe unto a trail some twelve miles into the wild of the Porcupine Mountains of the UP (yes, you pee) of Michigan.

Having already half-assed pitched my tent ... wait this sounds familiar...

I have found that when I go camping, I set up a tent and get out my sleeping bag, maybe an air mattress if I'm lucky, get the tent all situated and end up passing out next to the fire in a lawn chair.

Well, instead of passing out in a lawn chair, it was a snowbank that I dug into with my parka and -10 bag, and fuck if it wasn't cold. And fuck if I wasn't drunk with my old pal Jimbo Beamowski. Glorious times.

We would wake up and have the red beers. Usually tepid and quite heinous yet it got the job done. Throw some hot dogs on the grill (sometimes with BBQ sauce or tortillas) to have with it. Breakfast of champs. Always good when in the wild.

It's a nice idea but what about the morning after and having the runs?

I remember one summer in our family's summerhouse/cottage when I was a teenager and 'too young to drink' I had to slip into the woods and enjoy some me-time with a small bottle of vodka and by the time I was finished the stars had lit above me crowning my drunkenness with their beauty...I also remember the runs, yeah it wasn't nice.
