Why Drinking Games?

Post by TheDrunkardAnglo »

As a new member I've had a little look over some of the threads on this section to be bewildered with amazement at a great endorsement of drinking games. I simply ask why? Drinking to me isn't about simply getting shit-faced quickly, despite that being a more than admirable attribute to a good session. Drinking with friends should be about conversation, and drinking games from my experience doesn't usually equate to conversation at all. As a student, I must confess that I have only played the 'ring of fire', which as a game has so many diverse rules from drinking with your left hand to having a hand on a table at a specific point that one is simply too focused on not fucking up to actually partake in a good conversation.

The 'dirty pint' is a sacrilege to the Gods of the Grain, Grape and Potato why would anyone willingly mix their chosen poison in a glass with another? Isn't that after all what the stomach is for? Don't get me wrong I do not disagree with the fact that the dirty pint is a worthy punishment in taste and is indeed a quick piece of encouragement for those who seem to be lagging behind on the pre-drinking before the night out. But saying this, I feel that sharing a bottle of mid shelf scotch could achieve the same outcome with a better social environment.

Drinking games seem to arrive to a party with some false premise of 'laddish' feats of grand consumption. From my experience those who are so keen to push drinking games onto others, are the part-time social drinkers who walk into the party carrying a crate of American light beer, which I would respectively call carbonated horse piss. I don't recall any of our drinking hero's from Bukowski to Hemingway ever recalling their experiences with drinking games in 'Women' or 'For whom the bell tolls'. This in my mind is because we, the proper drinkers, need no excuse to drink. We need no reason to turn drinking into a game, for us it's simply what we do.

I would be very interested to hear everyone's' view on this. I'm ready to be convinced.

Rick: I'm a drunkard.
Captain Renault: That makes Rick a citizen of the world.

I like drinking games, but I play to lose. Never understood how taking a drink was a good punishment

The funnest & funniest drinking game I ever played is Drinkocity. Players make each other drink by answering uniquely crafted pop-culture trivia questions. Private message me to learn more about it.

Weekends I play this game where I pull the cork from a liter of bourbon and throw it down the sewer. Then I pour the bourbon down my neckhole and throw the empty bottle in the street.
