I myself have ended up in a life without many friends, out of which I'd call none a good friend. I only drink at home and since my wife is pretty anti-social we don't have people over .. much, pretty much at all. So I drink with her and it turns out she's bad company so the best drinking at the moment is when she's working weekend nights. Pretty pathetic but that's how it is.

If there's no alternative, drinking alone is just fine.

I got to say that it would be nice to have a pub I could go to, but there's none in this city...
I concur, but I have yet to find the right company here, so alone it shall be (forever if it has to be.)

I love drinking alone. Play the music I want, drink as fast, or as slow as I want. However, drinking alone at bar is my favourite thing. For the first few hours, I make the odd comment to the bartender or person next to you. Then, when I'm good and ripped I start talking to anyone. Sometimes they don't wanna chat so I move on. I've had quite a few adventurous nights where I started drinking alone and ended up at an undegraduate kegger or hanging out with Caribbean gangs (weird night, scared me to death).

Some geezers always frightened me giving out the doctrine that drinking alone
is "dangerous" and "gets you into alcoholism"
it fucking is NOT
drinking alone gets you a fine look in to your own psyche - everybody that finished
a bottle of jack alone with his best record on knows what i am talking about
there is absolutely nothing bad about it
I also agree with the one that said in an answer before
that it is much better than drinking in unpleasant company
anyway- drinking alone
be it to get on the right temperature for the partyevening
be it just to sit there pondering what lousy son of the wicked you are
it is never wrong
Another empty bottle
in another empty bed
i'm just another empty head
- what am i gonna do?
i'm gonna ride on

Damn I love drinkin alone! Not to say that I don't love the pubs, the regs and the incredible amount of well respected friends who are equal drunks as I, but shit! I have just bought a house, I have all my music, a fully stocked bar and nothing beats that wonderful moment when all the music is right, you can pour whatever the F us want, light a cigar or what have you! I drank 6 pints of Guinness at the pub with a good friend, taxi 2 minutes home, crack a bottle of wine , Mahones, Tom Waits, Fairport Convention and now I am loving the Woodford Resrve!! I have been pissed for a week!

Yup. I actually was off for 3 days coming off a 36 hour drunk (white wine not included, many bottles) One of the greatest things in life is a good pub, realt beers being alone with a book. It is great when one meets a fellow solo drinker. There is nothing awkward or unusual about meeting a fellow pisshead, simply a nod, a sip,the barmaid knows that we are all ok, .. sorry there, kinda lost my thought..abide

I've noticed that when drinking in public I cannot click a little icon to make people shut up.

They often respond, "Hey! Stop poking me!" And then continue speaking.

A strong argument for drinking alone, mais non?
Be safe everyone.
