Interesting. You don't find the brandy makes it too sweet? That Kahlua has got so much sugar in it, I find the vodka version to be just right. Haven't tried using brandy.

Nope. It's home-made kahlua. I use brown sugar for part of it and whole vanilla beans. Takes about six months sitting on the raw ingredients to get the taste where I want it. I use 100 proof vodka as an alcohol base, so it's stronger than the stuff you buy.

Tall glass. 1:3 brandy to kahlua. Enough milk/cream to get it to look like chocolate milk. Handful of ice to cool... If you use half-n-half, the fats in the suspension make a wonderful swirling pattern in the alcohol. Not quite the same as an absinthe louche, but marvelous all the same.

Very nice. The Midnight version at 35% is much better than the original in my opinion. At 50%... don't fear the reaper, I'd imagine.

I've made it the same way, except I never thought about using brown sugar. That's a great idea.

I usually make a big batch and give it away as Christmas presents to people at work.

Don't use decaf coffee... Or instant...

It's truly horrid.

A solid dark roast reduced with the sugar added. Cool, then add in the rest. Bottle, age, serve...

Lather, rinse, repeat...

I have always used instant coffee with good results. But now I'm going to try the coffee reduction. Sounds very good!

A very pleasant German black lager. Obviously toasted barley malt for a dark color and char/chocolate flavor. Lights your wick and keeps it burning...

Of the two Bombays, I much prefer the original. Nothing's going to separate me from the No. 209 gin I recently discovered, but Bombay Dry is an old favorite.
