Absinthe Refined (or so it claims):
http://www.crillonimporters.com/Absente ... -about.htm
I can honestly say, I bought 1/3rd of my local liqour stores yearly supply...so one bottle. :-/
Interesting. 55% ABV, kinda like a bitter Sambuca but not as heavy on the licqourice side of things.
Fucker is expensive though. Neat effect, but I think it's just because of the mix, I can feel my mouth start to go numb. Kinda like leaving Listerne in your mouth where it starts to burn the gums kinda thing.
Anyone else had it? I haven't had more than a glass at a time yet, but it makes me want to quote cradle of filth.
Absente

couldn't help it.
Pour the emerald wine
Into crystal glasses
We will touch the divine
Through kiss catharsis
Let us pitch to the seven-year itch
Of the ultra-decadent
To a tainted world and the painted girls
That our fantasies spent
Tripping through boudoirs laced with opiate themes
Sipping the bizarre, tasting copious dreams
A toast to those most sacrilegious of days
Where for every whim won
One soon repays
We touched the stars
That now laugh from afar
At we, the damned
The damned
We have spent our time
Drenched in opulent splendour
But when midnight chimes
Will gilded souls surrender?
Let us drink on the giddying brink
Of pools of excrement
All manner of shit for the glamour and glitz
Mephistopheles lent
I remember the night as if it were engraved
A bright marble bridge stretched across the dark waves
To the shore from the moon and by her grace
Came that erudite stranger
That fucker
He was a preditor, creditor cold
Our blood was shoved on the yellowing scrolls
And all that glittered was not gold
But we wanted everything
And for it all lost our souls
Come my friend, to fate let's raise
Two finger shots at this our last soiree
For tomorrow I fear
Swoops all too deadly near
This precipitous weir to Hell's high gate
We touched the stars
That now laugh from afar
At we, the damned
The damned
He was a preditor, creditor cold
Our blood was shoved on the yellowing scrolls
And all that glittered was not gold
But we wanted everything
And for it all lost our souls
Our souls,
And for it all lost our souls
Our souls

Your local is selling absinthe? I thought it was illegal?

I think there is legal Absinthe, without the thujone that is not approved by the FDA. Correct me if I'm wrong.
The Absinthe I had was Un Emille 68, and it was ungodly strong. Had an anise taste, like the Italian pizelle cookie thing kinda. It knocked me on my ass with authority, though.

No, not absinthe, "absente".Rowdydrunk79 wrote:Your local is selling absinthe? I thought it was illegal?
Again, it's 55%, but on the flavor side, it's like watered down Sambuca at a higher proof. Drinking a bit straight at the moment.Absente, Absinthe Refined, is a modern version of the original Absinthe recipe. It's still the same aromatic, dazzling emerald green liqueur made from a combination of exotic botanicals.
The only difference is we replaced Wormwood, the botanical that caused the initial ban, with a less bitter cousin called Southern-Wormwood, also known as "Petite Absinthe," which allows us to offer Absente in the United States.
I really need to get the real stuff. Anyone hook me up?

Yeah, it is expensive, but you get what you pay for. Folks have been disappointed by Absinthes they've purchased for half the price. Both Rooster and I have had the Edouard and give it a thumbs up. You just need to savor it. Maine Man and I only drank a third of a bottle in September and will enjoy another third next month (ritual and all). The effect on Maine Man alone was worth the price (quite entertaining!)

Hmmm...well, maybe you can go in on it with somebody. Personally, I'd hold out for the good stuff or not bother.

I invented this drink. I'm probably not the only one: Mix equal parts with vodka. Shake over ice. Strain into martini glass.
"Absentini"
or
"Absente Minded"
(what do you think is the better name?)
Absente is not real absinth(e). I just polished off a bottle last night. For some reason I always wake up with a splitting hangover the morning after I drink absente. I don't know whether it's because the liquor is of very poor quality, or I don't start drinking it until I shouldn't be drinking any more, if you know what I mean.
