Howdy kidz.
I'm having a beer to quiet the raging synapses who even as I type are loudly protesting last nights decisions. Look, it's done guys. There's nothing we can do about it now, and besides, this ain't no democracy. It's a dictatorship of the pro-liquor-beer-iat! (or somesuch...) If you're gonna beat hammers on anvils all day, at least sing a better song than that pulsating, grinding, buzzing thing you're piping into my ears right now. Try something catchy, like a Justin Timberlake tune or that $5 foot-long jingle from those Subway commercials. No, wait, that song makes me insecure about my... something. Just the way that cute Japanese chic looks so knowingly at Godzilla, it makes me feel inadequate, like she's saying "it is true what they say about monsters, isn't it?" Well, anyway enough of this inner monologue!
How are you inebriated denizens of this seedy den of iniquity known as the MDM Pub faring this fine Saturday morning?

Waxing far less philosophic than you are, friend, but in a similar situation. Head hurts, mouth dry, stomach cringing... par for the course. I am currently preparing to utilize my day off by grilling and eating copious amount of grilled meats and drinking rivers, lakes, and oceans of beer before moving onto the hard stuff. And working on the garden in the process. By the way, the drapes are hideous.
That's either spite or the hangover talking.

Cheers, buddy! Here's to ya!
And meat grillin' sounds awesome! My culinary aspirations are, for now, much lower, as I am washing down some cold pizza from 2 days ago with this Fat Tire.

Re: Stoppin' by... I like the new drapes!
Yeah, lots has happened. I'd love it if you gave me a call, Liz.
Short version:
Bitter divorce.
Brother died accidentally, ingesting a bunch of prescription sleeping pills after a few beers (it was not ruled suicide because there was no clear intent, we think he was just having trouble sleeping and his judgement was compromised by the beers, though his BAC was only about .15).
His mother (we're half brothers, same dad) committed suicide thereafter.
Dad returns to Japan, leaves me to handle legal paperwork, sell cars etc.
Dad has new baby girl with much younger Japanese wife.
Dad is an alcoholic, and not in the good way that people use the word here, but in the "Intervention" TV show way. He's abusive, irresponsible, hurts others and loses his job (and so has no pension) when he has a baby and wife and her decrepit father depending on him to earn money. He's spent his retirement boozing and now, ironically, is saved financially by his son and ex-wife's deaths. This fills him with guilt. He makes many desperate, blubbering phone calls. I call family, friends etc. to organize... an intervention.
Dad's in treatment, as well as acute liver failure, right now. He had a choice between living and drinking. It may be too late anyway. I hope not. I hesitate to post such a thing here, but it's not always fun and games with alcohol. But, I haven't quit drinking, though I am a bit more cautious than I used to be.
On the upside, my dad was rescued by a kind man in the airport. My dad made it over to LA from Japan, but instead of going to Salt Lake City where his brother and the treatment center that he arranged for my dad, free of charge, was, he tried to go to Vegas. When I heard this, I imagined my dad being found dead in a shitty motel in North Vegas, empties all around and a dazed hooker being the last person to see him alive. This airport guy took my dad under his wing, changed his own travel plans to go with my dad, and basically held his hand all the way to SLC, and waited until my uncle picked him up to take him to the treatment center.
Anyway, cheers to you all! My most sincere hope is that booze forever remains your friend, and never turns on you. The bottle is a harsh mistress sometimes, but keep her in your good graces and she'll always be source of succor, nonpareil! As an aside, if you ever need a friend or relative to bail you out of jail, it's considered bad form to berate them loudly and obscenely as the very reason you're there, even though it was you who cold-cocked a guy so hard he flew backwards over a chair. Just one of those old father-son lessons (I was the bailer, not the wailer).

Dylboz, I'd like to nominate that guy that helped your dad for sainthood.
It sounds like more of him in the world would be better for everybody.
