The only cops that were ever nice to me when I was drunk were off duty and drinking with me.
It's always a good day to get ripped!

Funnily enough in Finland if you look like business enough, while walking around passing the bottle cops really don't give a crap. You know with these prices pre-gaming is of the essence.

You are dating yourself my friend. This had to be at least late '70's.

Had one in '74. Pulled over in Marina del Rey in L.A. Totally soused on tequila. He asked me to get out of the vehicle. Met him at the back. Asked me why I didn't pull over right away. Told him didn't think he was after me but someone else in traffic alongside me. Got into a short conversation with him and blabbed that I was a student at LMU up the hill and was planning to go into the Peace Corps. (my lost liberal years), which I did. He said if he would bust me I wouldn't be going anywhere and he walked away.

He was correct. That would have deprived me of a great government sponsored trip that changed my life. There ain't no more cops like that. They are all revenue collectors and the more they bust the more they get paid.

I think I said that earlier in this thread, things were alot better when cops could go on their own judgment. When I was a punk kid they let me drive straight home a few times, followed me home a couple times.
Since them days I learned my lesson I paid my debt to society and I I don' tdrive drunk unless it's just a few blocks.

With all due respect, this isn't entirely correct.

They still do, it's called Officer discretion, the thing is, especially when it comes to DUI's. If Officer friendly let's a DUI drive on down the road, and someone winds up getting hurt - or worse. What do you think is going to happen to Officer friendly next? and even moreso, the department as a whole.
#1) Officer friendly is getting fired.
#2)The Department is going to get sued for millions, and they'll pay out just to avoid the bad press.

Liability hovers over everything a Police Officer does.

Straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak.

I've been jailed, and let go with a warning. It depends on how you act.

Smart motuh = jail.
Respectfull = freedom.

Pulling out the military ID usually gets me off with a warning. Another drunk sailor is usually not worth the paper work.

Yeah, navy swabbie, were you in San Diego?
Let me tell you about that place...

They give you guys a free pass. Saw vans pulling up on Brodaway downtown where all the hooker action happens (we're talking mid '80', don't know about today), unloading jarhead marines to have their romp. They had a ride home so they never had encounters with cops while driving. Got busted there because I was a civilian and smacked into a drunk border agent driving his car the wrong way on a one way street as I was legally crossing. They let him go but but booked me. They were cool. Didn't get any bad treatment from these guys. Yeah, I was guilty as sin chasing hookers and drinking while driving. You just need to be with the in crowd.

when I got my purse stolen in Rochester, NY...a cop let me ride in the front of the car and bought me a six pack and a pack of smokes. that's been the only time. however, the bike cops around here seem pretty ok. all the rest of my experiences have been negative. however, my neighborhood cops definitely have better things to do than to bother me on a regular basis.

They're pretty decent round here, though I think Shane-o-matic might disagree. Any time I ask them questions in drunkanese such as "do you ever use nunchucks?" or "is it ok to drink this wine here? No? Oh, sorry sir, I'll put it away" they've always laughed (I think) and let me go on my way. Even when I was approached while urinated in public they let me off because i had gone so far out of anybody's way and they only caught me because one of them decided to follow me.
