Ha! The rest of the story is that the cask was drunk dry by seamen on the return voyage!

Is the CORRECT!!! answer for +10 points.

Yes, as as the tale goes...

No doubt, must have been thirsty.
Hopefully they gained a bit of Nelson's courage in the bargain.
I'm also giving you +5 points for knowing that fact.

Not too long ago, Pusser's Navy Rum released a 15 year old blend aptly named "Nelson's Blood".
I would have to imagine the "blood" it contains is figurative.
The rum though is delicious.

Before I head to shore for provisions,
Let's take a look at the scores.

Are you thirsty?

Well, it's time to cozy up to the bar for another question.
Let's draw a pint or twelve
And have a good quaff while we ponder the next category: Beer Geekery
The correct answer earns a well deserved +10 points.

As always, good luck.

* Imperial Stout is basically a stout on steroids. To what nation does the "imperial" refer?

I'll await your answers with a glass of Old Rasputin in hand.

ARRRR!

Well, if there be anything involving black liquid, Oil be the taker of that, me lad.

Black coffee for the moaning,

black rum for the chaser,

and black beer for the sail.

"Imperial" will always mean mighty England. There be wise kings there, and a few crazy ones, and Queens of all manner of ilk, kind, and brightly painted shingles of various cuts.

Stout? Oil have me a bit of that now.

DRINK!

I regret to inform that
mistah willies wrote:... mighty England...
Is INCORRECT!!!

The style was originally brewed in England, but the term "imperial" refers to another country.

This is a trick question since it's not open book and the web is off limits. It appears over the centuries any country that had any imperial history or colonies that would brew stout beer could label their brand 'imperial'. We could go back to the early European explorers. It's a lot of different countries. Maybe there is some beer drinker convention that associates it with one country. Let's find out.

No, Lush. It's not a trick question.
Unless you read too deeply into it.
Smatter Noguts wrote:Russia.
Is CORRECTSKI!!! for +10 points.

The luxuriant Imperial Stout was originally brewed for Catherine the Great of Russia by Thrale's Brewery of London
As a token of friendship between the two empires.

In the modern day, knocking out a good Imperial Stout is considered a true test of the brewer's skills...
Stuck mashes that look like black gravy,
Sticky kettles,
Stubborn attenuation,
These are but a few of the complications that can typically arise.

Let's review the current scores.
We've got a fine game shaping up!

Put on your adult cocktail diapers, folks!
It's time for another question
From the bottom shelf of liquored knowledge.

Today, our category is Basic Booze Chemistry.
+5 points goes to your likeness upon providing the correct answer.
Please read the question carefully...

*In episode 346 of the hit comedy TV show Mama's Family, Mama goes to jail after her moonshine blinds the reverend and 30 other people at the local church picnic. What is the undesirable form of alcohol commonly associated with causing blindness?
