If they DARED to befoul such sacred ground like that, I might well swear off Guinness forever.

And the same goes for their other products too.

Fuck, is it gonna get to the point where we're gonna have to brew/distill our own just to avoid corporate scumfucks?

Not that it's a bad thing, look at how the homebrew movement put some life back into beer in the US. But sometimes I'd rather just pick up a pack at the store rather than spend weeks creating masterpieces.

It worked for thousands of years, and continues to work in a lot of the world, so why not?

With that portfolio, if they aren't raking it in, the business is being seriously mismanaged. Maintaining the historic brewery at St. James Gate should pay off royally in PR. If you were visiting Dublin, where else would you go first? (Besides 7 Eccles St. I mean.) Idiots.
Exactly! I just fail to see how they think that this would be a good move. If they were to market things correctly, that 3 billion gyros wouldn't be shite to what they could haul in from that historical site in the long run.

The Beams around these parts were big in my old parish when I was a kid. They were second or third cousins to the bourbon makers and also claimed decendence from Danny Boone, himself.

Drinking Beam Black right now. That's a great article. Inspiring. Wild Turkey and Jim Beam are my favorite Bourbons right now.

I still can't fully connect Woodford Reserve with Brown-Forman in my mind, and I don't know why*. Like Oggar, I'd be very intrigued by a Bourbon finished in this manner.

Also, this made me happy: "Brown-Forman isn't the only bourbon maker branching into special whiskeys to stir interest.

In September, Heaven Hill Distilleries will introduce a limited-edition, 12-year-old bourbon... aged in barrels given an extra-heavy char, which brings out greater hints of caramel and vanilla flavors, he said."

So I'm now looking forward to September for something besides the start of football season.

*I think it's 'cause of a girl from Woodford County I dated for a while. She was pretty groovy.

Also, a place called Elixir at 16th and Guerro is hosting a Kubler absinthe arrival party the 13th.

I think that my sister sends this info to me (knowing that I can't afford to go there) just to taunt me.

fnz, yeah - absinthe got front page news today in the sf chronicle - "absinthe out of the shadows, into the glass". all stuff we already know mostly re. history, thujone, etc. st. george spirits was the featured distiller, and they also distill brandy and hanger one voddie. st. george's absinthe verte goes on sale 12/21/07. i guess others are available like kubler and lucid. i'm gonna check out this elixer link - never been there but hell, it's right in my backyard. oh, st. george is selling their absinthe for $75 a bottle. now what i'm wondering, is the amt of thujone in the u.s. produced absinthe the same as the traditional formula?

SHITE!!! I was just a few doors down from Elixir earlier tonight, and the thought crossed my mind to venture there. I obviously chose the wrong establishment!! Then I get home and see this.

Thanks for the info, FNZ (I jetted out of the house this morning w/o even glancing at the paper), and further check out this interesting unfolding of alcohol archeology.
