I have very little experience thus far with scotch, but I've found that Johnny Walker Red Label is a good choice for its price. I recently flew overseas and purchased a liter on the plane for $16...I suppose that isn't any help, but I would assume it's quite affordable anywhere. Black Label is pricier, but you get more bang for your buck.

Someone you know? Is this someone you want to continue to know? And how much do they know about scotch, anyway?

I am currently loving on Clan McGregor plastic 1.75L jugs for $13 at Costco. It's fine for Scotch and Sodas and even shots. Christ it's blended which is a nice way to say blanded scotch. Scoresby is also another Mccheapo. JB, Dewars, JW are aall too expensive for Blanded scotch.

My dad will drink Clan McGregor, I think. But not often. The one thing he told me about scotch was "if it's not good, you'll regret it."

12 year old Dalmore. It should be about 20 $ a bottle and it is really good. It is a single malt NOT a blended scotch. MUCH better.

Lauders. $8 a fifth in NH. Passes easily for J and B or Johnny Walker Black Label. Can not pass muster on Dewars or better.

Excellent? No, not for a single malt.

Decent for 25 bucks a bottle? Absolutely.
