"Brick" bars

Post by Badfellow »

Recenly, I was getting nicely loaded on trappist ales and watching some DVD of Northern Exposure. The Brick, located in fictitious Cicily, AK, is the only bar in town and thus serves as a real sort of public house for the community. This lead me to wonder, exactly how many "Bricks" are there?

I can think of two off hand, located at either end of MN.

The Brick Inn, Battle Lake, MN, is not far off in resemblance to the afore mentioned Brick. During the summer it hops with tourists and fishermen. Winter gives over to the locals and is quiet, save for the occasional drunk asshole.

The Blue Brick in Mankato, MN is a college bar at the head of a particularly notorious drinking strip. They serve decent double pours of Scotch.

And then there's The Brick Bar in Ft. Myers, FL. Or the Red Brick Bar in Covington, OK. Or the Red Brick Station, a bar and brewpub in Baltimore.

Is there a Brick in your life, drinker?

there's a place just called the brick here in st louis, but i've never been there. i'm always wary of new bars with names like that... it sounds like the bar might swing a different direction than i.

are you talking anchor of community or just having said word in the name.... theres a bar around here named 'brick' but personally i think it sucks....

having never lived in a community smaller than 50k or so, there's never been just one place for my towns.... although personally i can think of one....

There's no bars in NJ called "The Brick" but there should be: I live next to a Town named Brick Town, NJ. What better way to let people know where the bar is than by having the town in the name?

They were rerunning Northern Exposure at 1am for a while, I used to catch it all the time. I'd be three sheets to the wind and trying to figure out if I should move to Alaska by the end of it every night.

Man, do they ever. Something like 600+ beers, and they've actually got them in stock. Recommended highly.

There's a "bricktown" neighborhood in OK city. Yuppie, revamped tourist area downtown- you get the idea. It seemed about 1/4 of the bars were named brick something or other. Brick house, Bricktown brewpub, brick cafe, etc...
