We know that gin + bitters = pink gin.

What then does it equal when you add a splash of red vermouth to the shaker? The taste is lightly sweet, and for lack of a better descriptive, mystic. It's delicious.

I'm not one hundred percent sure, but I believe that cocktail is called Artillery.
The man who intoxicates himself on bad whisky is sometimes moved to kill his wife and set his house on fire, but the victim of applejack is capable of blowing up a whole town with dynamite and of reciting original poetry to every surviving inhabitant.

This doesn't need a name as much as a taste test. By "red" vermouth, I assume you mean sweet vermouth?

Correct. Noilly Prat.

-edit-

The gin is regular Bombay. The bitters are Angostura.

Then I guess it would be a sweet Martini with a dash of bitters.

Perhaps a sweet pink Martini?

I dunno. You make that sound way too effeminate for the amount of alcohol invovled.

Klingon Blood Martini has a better ring.

In honor of the Irish, we'll call it the Nic O' Hooliganator.

This reminds me of something I was reading today about Red Lemonade, a soda pop popular in Ireland. We had a similar libation when I was a kid in the midwest, around Halloween, called Witches Brew in 2 liter bottles. This was good, early practice for keeping pace with my future drinking peers. It's as if I'd been training my entire life.

i happened upon something as i was searching for oude genever-based cocktails, and when mixed with red italian vermouth it is called a "thumb in the dike."
i hereby rescind my prior post.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.
I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate.
All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
Time to die.

Lovely scene.

Ubriaco, is all I got to say for my wicked thumb. Maybe it was the counter clockwise swirl.

Man, I saw that as a kid after obsessing over Star Wars for about ten years. Suffice to say my mind was blown.
I didn't fight a secret war in Nicaragua so you could walk these streets of freedom badmouthing Lady America, in your damn mirrored sunglasses!
