The undrunk mind cannot completley comprehend drunkeness

Post by Fred O'Lisby »

Even a complete drunk such as myself cannot, in an undrunk state of mind, appreciate being drunk to it's full extent. The best you can do is remember that it is fun and you want to do it again as soon as possible. You know everything is a little hazy and you do things you can't remember, but you can't create with your imagination what you can create with a flask of gin. Maybe that's a good reason why we keep drinking instead of just reflecting on how fun drinking is, and why it's worth it.

That explains the "What the hell was I thinking?!" feeling I have whenever I wake up to an exceptionally bad hangover.

I think that all the time. Then Friday evening comes around after a crap week of working for divorce attorneys and I veer to the right into the liquor store on the way to the bus stop.

I get it, I understand completely. I get that way all the time. What really sucks is that I love being around drunks, have a ball with them... when I am drunk too that is. When I am undrunk around them they are annoying and drive me freakin crazy.
It's like when I tried to explain to my wife why I like to drink so much. Makes all your troubles seem distant, makes you want to smile and a laugh is much easier to come by. When drunk, everything seems ok and no matter what kind of shit you deal with, deep down you know that it'll all work out. I can't explain why I like the drunken state so much, I just know I do.
Beer's just being social. Whiskey's drinkin'.

I don't feel this way. I love being around drunk people. S*ber or drunk. I find it endlessly entertaining.

Perhaps I should clarify. When I am undrunk at work, being around drunks in annoying. Perhaps I am just jealous?

Yep, I'm a career bartender. Keeper and dispenser of good cheer. The guy with the drug in the mug that you love to chug.
