Not far behind you. Started early but the sun didn't go down so had to go out for refills! Ice cold Jager shots and PBR. Damn this extended daylight. Sworn to drink during circadian hours only. Another fail!

Today is Christopher Hitchens' birthday. Going to raise a few glasses to his memory tonight.

I love this board, I learn something new with every glass.
"I never want to go to bed if there are still beers in the fridge, but then I am always hopeful that there are beers left in there when I wake up.". Thirstydrunk.

"We all look for happiness, but without knowing where to find it: like drunkards who look for their house, knowing dimly that they have one." Voltaire

"The prince of darkness is a gentleman." Shakespeare.

The only thing I have in common with this man is we both enjoy heavy drinking and smoking. That's as close as I wish to get with a socialist. Don't trust them with my back turned. He's far from honorable.

Socialism was certainly important to his early life. By 2001 or so, he had distanced himself from the stance - "neocon" was the new categorisation (not his words, of course, but the words of the Left).

Of course, he's dead now, but I have tremendous respect for the man for many reasons; like yourself, the drinking and smoking I respect as well. He also did some things I didn't agree with, but at least (for the most part) he stood by his convictions and defended them convincingly.

Back to studying. Going to have to glue my eyes open very soon, or perhaps just open another beer...

Don't tar us all with the same brush, some of us are approaching reasonable. I personally found him fascinating, although I didn't agree with an awful lot of what he said. I can't say I didn't learn stuff from his writings though. Interesting fella, filled with passion.

Also, when did summer happen please? Left the house in wildly inappropriate clothing, now boiling hot and grumpy.

On this day in 1970, Apollo 13 got into a LOT of trouble. How they had the courage to think straight and sort it is amazing. Cheers to them.

I'm afraid that I'm going to wake up beneath a pile of rubble. These winds are strong!

In anticipation of this, I am drinking Brutal Hammers and wearing a fez.

Cheers! Nice knowing you all...

I had something I wanted to say earlier but I couldn't find this thread. I'm sure that it was worth remembering, definitely

Yes, understand. I'm a reader of Max Kaiser as painful as that is to admit. I've learned much about money and finance but don't agree with a bunch of his other stuff. C'mon... Bitcoin? For God's sake. Talk about another Ponzi scheme.

While we are on the subject of Ponzi schemes, I just lost a shitload in the gold market and I'm getting drunk to medicate myself. Fuck you Ben Bernanke and Tim Geithner. You pricks and your banker buddies orchestrated a hit on your fake paper market. You will do anything to make the U$D look good. Can't have any competing currencies. So you are driving the price into the dirt hoping everyone sells their coins so you can buy them up cheap to run it up on your side. You will need it because you're hastening your own demise. The physical market is not cooperating. The dollar will collapse.

Try to buy some physical gold or silver? Good luck if you can find it. If you do there's a big premium over spot. There is a financial collapse coming soon brought to you buy the debased U$ dollar. Get your money out of the system. They will take it to stay afloat. Just look at Cyprus as the test kitchen. Keep your throat wet and your powder dry.
