So I just got home from my regular\local closing...

Post by Benh182 »

... and heartbroken doesn't quite cover it.

I couldn't even bare to stay for the final lock-in. It was too much. Tempers flared, people cried, people bid a fond farewell and made promises to keep in touch with others when both people knew they would never see each other again as long as they lived.

They gave me a job when I needed it most, even with zero experience behind a bar. I found my day job through people I knew there. It was my second home, my life, and you really dont know what you've got till its gone.

I really am at a loss.

Advice?

Like ivan said, drink, don't stop. You'll wake up some time tomorrow, then it's time to decide if you want to start up again.
The last thing that anyone should ever do is feel ashamed of blacking out. You were trying to get drunk last night and, goddamnit, mission accomplished.

Pack up as much beer, booze, and cheez doodles as you can carry. Break into the place and just stay there, drinking, until it re-opens under another name.
Or if they tear it down, sit in the empty lot and drink.
Don't give up.

Been there, suffered, then my new regular place burned to the ground a few months later.

this does truly suck. my favorite eating place in north beach (the golden spike) closed down awhile ago. i happened to be there on the final night. very sad - it's quite hard to find a place to call your favorite, that meets all your criteria. well, have fun looking for a new watering hole.

Get real hammered and sway about your abode singing some songs that make you feel good.

It's a shame to have to find a new local; it's happened to me several times. The worst part is being a new face in a pub where nobody knows you.

Yeah, I hate to sound like the Cheers theme song, but it is nice to go to a place where you know the locals.

Benh182,

I've had a few close down on me, but that place seemed real special to you. Man, all I can say is, get a good "grieving" drunk in you, then onward and upward. And always try to bring that bar's good vibe with you wherever you drink.

My condolances, pal. I'll drink a whiskey to you.

stagger back and place a wreath by the door and place an empty can/bottle and a butted out ciggy by it
write good-bye/R.I.P. on the front door with your urine...get a homeless guy or someone to take your photo

and take a moment to remember that fading familiar smell of wet bar and follow your nose to the next watering hole
it's closer than you think..besides the other regulars are drunken nomads now as well....

Gather a band of your fellow regs from the now dearly departed pub and deem the next jernt worthy of calling you mighty revelers regulars - could end up in quite the donnybrook over the disenfranchised drunkards!

i dont know about that mate, i always find it quite satisfying that its going to take everyone at least 3 hours to realise what specific type of maniac i am......

then 4 hours before the bar owner has me fixing the sound system, video system, computer in office....

then 5 hours before people start asking me to sort them out with dodgy ipods, computers, plasma screens, drugs, assasinations, ladyboys......
