See what paying it forward (I hated that movie..am I the only who cheered when H.Osmont got stabbed?) does? I was in the local picking up my regular 30 pack. The change is always $1.11. I even hoist the pack on the scanner so the old lady there (we are probably closer in age then I accept) doesn't have to wrench her back.

She hands me $10.11. Even unfolds the ten because it was wrinkled. I had a fleeting thought of good fortune but before I could complete it this post jumped right in my mind. See Ivan, you saved two checkers from large till shortages.

I am a better person because of you.

I probably would have done the right thing but you made sure of it.

Thank you for your service once again.

And afterwords we can run amok! Or if you're too tired, we can walk amok.

I grant the both of you clemency for your next sin. Now, go with God, skin them and wear their skins, my sons.

I didn't do a damned thing. You just recognized the right thing to do, and then went with it.

Like Casino said, anything else is frat-boy BS. We're Drunkards, we don't apologize. We do what's expected of us and, in return, we can ask for a fair shake. Doing the right thing is a part of Drunkard karma. You simply don't let a person who doesn't have booze go without for a night. You don't refuse to let someone bum a smoke, or a dip, if they need one. You occasionally go farther.

Why?

Because, one day, you were on the other side. You might get there again some day. Give while you've got it. You might be on the other side sometime.

I concur with your inebrio-ethics, Ivan. You're of a fine character, but I've expressed that opinion before.

However, I think it comes down to the character of the candy store itself. Are they "mom & pops" by their living? Or are they shrewd suits smoking your dollar? Because when it comes to the latter, I've let mistakes fall in my favor at the register. Sometimes quite frequently. And in that I feel no debt to shame nor karma.

Living up to your drunkard moniker. And not in the good way. Bad boy. And not in the good way.
