It's pretty good but not the best. Barfly, The Big Lebowski, others too.
The last thing that anyone should ever do is feel ashamed of blacking out. You were trying to get drunk last night and, goddamnit, mission accomplished.

the blues brothers is one of my all time favorite movies, but i wouldn't call it a drinking movie. Not much of any drinking in it, there's a little, but very little. Still, great movie though and i've come home drunk many nights and found myself watching it.

I'll cast my vote for Barfly.

Leaving Las Vegas might be number one, but as much fun as Nicholas Cage looks like he's having while chugging liter after liter of liquor, ultimately the movie demonizes booze. And any movie that demonizes booze just can't be the greatest drinking movie ever.
Getting drunk was good. I decided that I would always like getting drunk. It took away the obvious and maybe if you could get away from the obvious often enough, you wouldn't become obvious yourself - Bukowski

That is one of two movies where an ex-GF has said, "This is about us".

The other movie was Fight Club......

I will go to my grave wishing I had never dumped that girl.

Leaving Las Vegas isn't about booze really, it's about broken people and how "love" is not enough. Would not say it's the best drunk movie. A good movie though.

Ok, but couldn't you say the same thing about Barfly?

edit: And for that matter a lot of the good drinking movies.

Barfly to me seems to be about more things, but I might be reading Bukowski's writings into the movie. Need to read Hollywood.

that's a good question though, how many booze movies are actually about the booze? Booze may play a large part in the movie, but there is always something going on underneath. That can be said about life in general though.

I was drunk and half way through the movie when I posted that. Although it is a fantastic movie to watch while drunk, it is surely not the greatest drinking movie ever.

I like to drink during Caddyshack. Every time the gopher dances, I dance. And I make the dolphin noise.

A movie doesn't have to be about drinking to be a good film to get drunk to, case in point, Reservoir Dogs
