I wouldn't want to drink Islay all night, but it's good as a starter, and you can still taste the difference when you're drunk. I remember when I visited the Yamazaki distillery, I had seven of the free samples of 10 and 12 year old single malts after the tour. So, when I went to the whisky library bar afterwards and had an award-winning 17 year old followed by a Macallan 18, I didn't think they were all that special. Then, I had a Laphroaig 10 and I thought - now that's tasty! I think Lagavulin is a bit too smoky, but I'd never turn one down.

Started with a fancy little sampler of 50 cl's. Tasty to a fault but the 17 Double wood was aclear winner.



Next up was a solid HH number. Mellow Corn is a fine aged corn likker. Not like 'shine or white dog. To be called corn whiskey it has to be at least 80% corn in the mash bill. Not a big deal as some bourbons boast that % as well. The difference lies in the fact they age it in used barrels unlike bourbon, which has to be in new make freshly charred barrels. At 25 a handle this rivals Evan Williams bottled in bond (white label).

Bum wine for me, I hope one day they`ll set up a whole wineyard just for my consumption, then I`ll switch back to vodka

It was a toss up between a shot of Jameson or Tullamore Dew in the coffee with breakfast today, so I did them both.

The difference lies in the fact they age it in used barrels unlike bourbon, which has to be in new make freshly charred barrels. At 25 a handle this rivals Evan Williams bottled in bond (white label).

This is highly, highly fascinating, and what an ideal use for bourbon barrels. Maybe a little wheat to go with that corn mash?

Walked into Total Wine yesterday and ran into this...



They were selling CASES for $19.99!! I bought 2 CASES.
The label states that it is a "Amber Hued Lager with grapefruit and pine aromas, that is made with Elk Mountain Farm hops."
Looks way better than it tastes. Now I know why they were on sale. I'm hoping the more of them I drink the better they'll taste.
Not holding my breath.

The label states that it is a "Amber Hued Lager with grapefruit and pine aromas, that is made with Elk Mountain Farm hops."
Looks way better than it tastes. Now I know why they were on sale. I'm hoping the more of them I drink the better they'll taste.

You know, them Elks like to mark their territory... Hey, at least the grapefruit flavor wasn't added in after. It's genuine Eau d'Elk, isn't it.

It's not grapefruit "flavoring" (thank God). It's supposed to be from the hops. Hell, elk piss would probably enhance this stuff. I could have bought 2 cases of PBR, saved a few bucks AND been able to drink it easier. Rest easy as ALL BEER in this house must pass thru my bladder no matter how insidious.
