A little sour apple goes good here too...ThirstyBirdy wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2019 7:58 amBuffalo Juice (a butter pepper sweet)
-whiskey
-root beer
-red jalapeno pepper (optional)
Fill highball halfway with ice. Pour in a little rootbeer, but leave 2 to 3 inches of ice showing. Level
the whiskey to the ice. Fill with root beer. Stir with a swizzle dick...
Optional Additions:
If you can stomach it, put a sweet red jalapeno wedge in this (squeeze a little juice in). Paprika mixed with a VERY slight bit of sugar can mimic as well if you dont want the heat. Cayenne works too
Have hot sauce and fresh sea salt nearby for sampling (knucle lick)
What are you drinking right now?

Just had a large glass of Weller 114 Wheated Whiskey with exactly one ice cube, and it feels as wonderfully as it tastes.

Bourbon for now but I see rye in my future and I'm looking forward to it.
Re: What are you drinking right now?
Compass Box's The Peat Monster.
This will conclude my foray into their whiskey range, as I'm pretty sure I've bought every variety available in town.
Patchez was right when he called them "brilliant blends". That they are.
Out of Asyla, Oak Cross, The Spaniard, and The Peat Monster, I would have to say that Oak Cross was my favorite, with Asyla coming in as a close second.

Don't worry. We're in no hurry.

Also if anyone has Prime you should watch that Doc. Good info and another reason to raise a dram.

A dirty martini, with Gordon's gin and Martini & Rossi vermouth.
Gordon's was Hemingway's gin of choice. Good enough for Papa, good enough for me.

I was probably drunk when I said that, but I meant it.

Champagne cocktail Moderne: 1 oz. Makers, 1/2 T. simple, fill with cheap sparkling wine. Tiny umbrella and amusing hat optional. Because breakfast deserves something other than the perennial Bloody.

You know, that is mighty close to a Brutal Hammer, but with feminine class.
Burlesque Hammer?
Re: What are you drinking right now?
Is that the 16 you've got there? Hard to see from the pic.
There are some younger expressions of Lagavulin around these parts (8 and 12, I think).
I'm wondering if it would be educational to try some, to kind of "see" where the 16 comes from.
Anyways, I'll have to hunt down that documentary. Right up my alley.
This brief documentary is quite nice.
Don't worry. We're in no hurry.

Just chewing the olive on my first cocktail: a dilltini (name subject to change) which is a martini with one less gin replaced with a dill aquavit made here in Wisconsin.
Next will be Tipsy's Obituary (name subject to change) which is a 50/50 gin and absinthe cocktail.
After that a Stone Brewing Fear Movie Lions double IPA.

The 8 is supposed to be great. I think the 12 is the Nick Offerman bottle.(edit- nope Nick's is an 11 y.o.) Sticks in my head there may have been a 10 floating around at one time. (edit- again nope. an 8, 12 and 16 are the main ones with the Offerman bottle at 11. After that they start getting too pricey to worry with.)
According to the doc the younger expressions show you more of the malt character and less of the barrel. The older it gets the more the barrel influences the whiskey. Makes sense.

That's pretty badass. One has a work place that allows exploration of booze, and the other is an explorer who knows his booze.
Me? I'm savoring this Kraken on top of blueberry pancakes. Kraken ®. It's not just for supper anymore.
