Some of you young'uns -- and through absolutely no fault of your own -- have a narrow idea about the breadth and scope of what rock 'n' roll is, other than a vague, catch-all description; a term handed down by your parents, with a content crafted by peer-pressure and the radio programmer$ of your youth.
However, if you feel adventurous, you can always begin with Little Richard and then work backwards through recorded history to the source.
Hint...Google: Charley Patton.

Rock music is such a vague term I don't even know what it is supposed to mean. The 90s music I listen to sure as hell isn't being played on the radio.

Charley also pretty much defined "old-school" rap and hip-hop.hoverdog wrote:

I think people's favorite music has a lot to do with the memories they associate with it. Sublime was the soundtrack of my youth.

I dig Sublime, it wasn't really part of my youth but I can think of alot of good times to those beats.

another Sublime fan here..always have a copy of 40 oz. to freedom wherever i go. only thing that pisses me off are the "supposed" fans that think Sublime's catalog consists of only Santeria and What I Got..both are good songs, but their older shit is definitely better.ThirstyDrunk wrote:Yeah, memories mean alot, and alot has to do with the mood it puts you in.Chimneyfish wrote:I think people's favorite music has a lot to do with the memories they associate with it. it's true. the local station here is generally really good, then the dj will play something he got laid to for the first time in '76 that sucks.Chimneyfish wrote:I think people's favorite music has a lot to do with the memories they associate with it.

Goddamn I know. It is all manufactured bullshit nowadays. No one lives it. It started with that grunge shit. We need another Guns N Roses, they lived it.

Like this one that always reminds me of one of the first times I tried ecstasy during a kegger at my place and some random throwaway slut stripped down and started dancing around my living room to the song.Wingman wrote:it's true. the local station here is generally really good, then the dj will play something he got laid to for the first time in '76 that sucks.Chimneyfish wrote:I think people's favorite music has a lot to do with the memories they associate with it.

Yeah, I can't relate either. I fucking hate stuff like this, but the people that like it hate my favorite stuff like Megadeth, so...Mr Boozificator wrote:Okay, you're drunk.Chimneyfish wrote:To discover what the best band from the 90s was then click here.
Also coincidently the best band ever.

Number one: Megadeth rules. Number two: The big four of thrash (Metallica, Megadeth, SLAYER and Anthrax) are the best music from my generation and i have notheing against 90's rock (Alice in Chains is phenomanal). But if you claim to "love' any of the modern rock bands... well ... Satan help you.

Absolutely it does. And that song is great, because its from my youth as well. When everything was more simple, and being rebellious was easier.Chimneyfish wrote:I think people's favorite music has a lot to do with the memories they associate with it. Sublime was the soundtrack of my youth.

Getting drunk was good. I decided that I would always like getting drunk. It took away the obvious and maybe if you could get away from the obvious often enough, you wouldn't become obvious yourself - Bukowski
