Tip o' the hat and raise o' my glass to you veteran MDMers. I only get on here every once in a while but it's always a great feeling, because of the points made in the OP, even though I don't know any of you.

Re: "Has MDM Failed?"
If my life in the last 6 years is any kind of indicator, MDM has succeeded beyond any and all expectations.
I joined here in 2004. I had been reading the mag online for months, when I noticed a link that said "chat board". Wondering "WTF is this?", I clicked into the board and started reading. Within 10 minutes, I had registered and started to post. I felt like I had finally found, after 20 some odd years of drinking, a group of people who understood me; and they understood me because they WERE me, in a sense. I felt like I had opened a door I'd never noticed before, and it swung open into home.
I've met many of you (well, the older crew anyway) in person, and I've found pretty much every one of you to be exactly what your online persona indicated you would be. I've had quite a few up here to visit, brought you into my home without ever having met you in person, and I have never once been disappointed or burned. I've met many others at con2, con3, and DonCon, and had some of the most memorable experiences of my life. I've even met some of the people I dislike on here in person, and I actually enjoyed having a drink with them and talking to them.
I don't post here all that much anymore, but I still get on and read almost every day, and still chime in when I feel like it. While the old timers here lament the changing of the guard, so to speak, I agree but also understand that that's life; things change, people come and go, but in the end, we're all linked in the brotherhood of booze. I consider many of you true friends, and I don't use that term (or phrase) lightly.
Here's to hoping there's another Con one of these days, and that if there is, we get a good showing from both the old and the new.

This is what you get when you take them out of the dark library basement (lying in wait for the unsuspecting co-ed) and let them drive heavy machinery.FNZ wrote:Weren't there many lavatory incidences becaue of this board: one terlet destroyed, the destruction of some plumbing regailed, an urinal cake bequeathed, und so weit...
