Cans or bottles?

Post by John Barleycorn »

I like cans. They protect from light the best and I can't begin to imagine what a fucking mess this place would be if I had all those empty bottles laying around. Lots of schlepping with bottles, especially returnables. At least with a can I can crush it to a small size and toss it in the garbage.

also, they don't make 30-packs of bottles. for the weight reasons, i assume. which brings up the environmental impact. cans cost less to transport the same amount of beer. not that i wouldn't drink it if it was wrapped in baby-seal fur, but still.

ooh, and less likely to break. very important.

i think you can get whiskey in a can, too, though i've only ever had the beam and cola from a vending machine. that was nasty, but only because they used cheap cola.

You can also cram a fuckton of beer cans into a fridge because they stack well.

I've emptied enough cans to build a squadron of P38s.

I prefer bottles. I like the weight and the clinky noise they make.

Cans take up less space and are easier to get rid of, but unfortunately lots of ales only come in bottles. I have a big stack of bottles on the floor because the recycling lorry only comes fortnightly...

At a bar I like bottles, at home I like cans for the aforementioned stackability and ease of disposal.

Of course, this is all just in reference to beer. 99% of liquor and wine comes in bottles, so if I had to pick one complete category of beverages over the other, the choice is pretty clear.
