Re: What is your funeral song?
funeral songs are a dime a dozen but I earmarked this poem for my funeral some time ago :)
I have a rendezvous with Death
At some disputed barricade,
When Spring comes back with rustling shade
And apple-blossoms fill the air—
I have a rendezvous with Death
When Spring brings back blue days and fair.
It may be he shall take my hand
And lead me into his dark land
And close my eyes and quench my breath—
It may be I shall pass him still.
I have a rendezvous with Death
On some scarred slope of battered hill,
When Spring comes round again this year
And the first meadow-flowers appear.
God knows 'twere better to be deep
Pillowed in silk and scented down,
Where love throbs out in blissful sleep,
Pulse nigh to pulse, and breath to breath,
Where hushed awakenings are dear...
But I've a rendezvous with Death
At midnight in some flaming town,
When Spring trips north again this year,
And I to my pledged word am true,
I shall not fail that rendezvous.
I have a rendezvous with Death

When Spring comes back with rustling shade
And apple-blossoms fill the air—
I have a rendezvous with Death

It may be he shall take my hand

Well, it ain't no Highway to Hell...
Like a desperate thirst in a raging drought

Scary and comforting at the same time.
Quite good I thought.

My Way or That's Life by Frank Sinatra is what I would want.
The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.

I'll settle for a rousing rendition of The Internationale by all of the Party Faithful.

"Freebird"
Yeah it's obvious but whatever, it still rules. Bonus points if they're playing some shitty organ dirge and a mulleted rake comes in with a rack of Keystone under his arm and yells, "This shit sucks! SKYNYRD!!!"

Great song. Liam's minimalist version is awesome and I love this one too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhJp0W0ku2w
For myself, I'm not completely sure but here are a couple ideas:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KTaxb7c ... re=related
or You Stand by Me by The Who
When I'm in trouble
You stand by me
When I see double
You stand by me
You take my side
Against those who lied
You take my side
Gimme back my pride
When I been losing
You stand by me
When I been boozin'
You stand by me
You take my side
Against those who lied
You take my side
Gimme back my pride
I suppose I could make it all my own
I know I'd arrive all skin and all bone
You are the strongest back I've ever known
You carried me, carried me, carried me
You carried me home
When I'm crying
You stand by me
When I am dying
You stand by me

Also "If I ever leave this world alive" from Flogging Molly and why not "Worst Day Since Yesterday" as well while at it.

Streets of Laredo
as arranged by Johnny Cash on America IV

I have a few cousins up in the panhandle who can sing and play piano and it'd be great if they could play it. And if they could tuck a bottle of good whiskey under my arm also, that'd be great. And put a nice shine on my shoes. And some starch in my collar. Not too much, though. Just enough to make it crisp.
And when the cowboys push my funeral pyre into the Gulf of Mexico, rig it up with propane and fireworks first, so when they shoot the propane tanks with their rifles, I can give the folks a nice show. It'll be like the damn 4th of July, no matter what day it is.

Re: What is your funeral song?
I'd pick a different song everyday, so it depends. Today it'd be Johnny Cash's version of Hurt.
