Stroh/Stroh's

Post by Shane-O-Matic »

I've seen a few posts from US-based MDMers about Stroh's. However, continued drunkenness and lapse of memory have caused me to largely forget what they were talking about. I had always assumed that Stroh and Stroh's were the same thing: a beer.

Nope.

Bought a bottle of Stroh from a posh booze store. Not cheap, but then it was a 160 proof rum. Had a gasoline-like odour, but it tasted fine; did the job.

Anyone else had the chance to drink this stuff?

Yep. It's good.

Yeah, I only knew of it as the beer my dad used to drink.

Same for me, cheap beer in the States. I would like to find me some of the rum though.

We used to do booze exchanges, back in the day. I'll happily send you the rum in exchange for some bourbon.
PM me if you're interested.

I don't know if anybody else has ever used "BAUFIX" paint thinners. They smell remarkably similar to stroh 80

Mr Viking has called it, it smells of solvents and if you leave it on the tongue a few moments you can feel it evaporating.

Taste wise it is very sweet, and it burns all the way down.

It is literally the only spirit I am afraid of and unfortunately I keep trying to face my fears, I'd recommend it as a taste it so you know you have then leave it in the cabinet for harming friends.

It's that beer from that Offspring song, "One Fine Day". Good song, good song.

In the great 70's regional beer days I know a guy who would bootleg Coors east and Stroh's west.
Made in Detroit, had a nice Cascade hop twang and was fuller than a pilsner aught to be but was the standard around here. Molson took a huge bite out of thier ass, then the Miller/Bud apocolypse occured, and we all lived underground until the Great Ale Microbeer Revolution occured and now we're all as happy as pigeons in a pond.

Or lend it to Mr. Viking, so he can use it to harm his neighbors. Stroh will put them in their place.

I have been watching an unopened bottle of Stroh 80 (160 proof) on the top of my fridge for 7 years now and that tells a lot about my relationship with named substance.

It cannot possibly have been there for 7 years or I would have guzzled it during my last visit.

It was there, but you were more interested in other parts of my supply. Like vodka. And… vodka, maybe?

When I do own a bottle it does have one of the longest shelf lives on my cabinet outside of Amarula and pernod.
