A little New Year's baby story from Patchez' neck o' the woods. There is one takeaway, see if you can find it:

DANVILLE — The Susquehanna Valley’s firstborn of 2019 arrived 10 days early.

Tiffany Chestnut delivered her third child, Nicole Renee, at 1:07 a.m. Tuesday at Geisinger Medical Center, making her the first born at a Valley hospital. The child’s mother wasn’t expecting a New Year’s Day baby. Nicole wasn't due until Jan. 11.

“I tried to eat my pork and sauerkraut,” Tiffany said about the onset of contractions late Monday afternoon.

Michael Troup drove his daughter from her home in Mifflinburg, arriving at the hospital about 5:30 p.m. Tiffany’s husband, Jason, stayed behind with their two daughters, 5-year-old Julia and 3-year-old Allison, along with his aunt, Mary Huff, who’d been released from Geisinger just hours before Tiffany was admitted.

Seven-and-a-half hours passed before Nicole arrived.

“One big push and that was it, she was out,” Tiffany said.

“It’s like a once in a lifetime to get something like this to happen,” Troup said of the timing.

The Chestnuts and their extended family crowded a hospital room Tuesday to be with Tiffany and Nicole. Jason looked tired. His girls did, too, mother included. Julia wore a shirt that read “Big Sister.” She said she has some lessons in big sisterhood to pass on to Allison.

“Play with her,” Julia responded when asked what she’d teach Allison.

“Show her how to play and share,” Tiffany said
