Post by Rabies »

Trying to get into Rum looking for suggestions, maybe a Rum that tastes like Whiskey.
There's a game called drinking, it's a lot like solitaire

All the cool kids have eschewed both and have switched to Cynar! Be cool, drink Cynar!

There's always Grandpappy MacKenzie's Maple Bark Canadian Rumskey. It's hard to find anywhere outside of the Yukon, though.

If you're gonna drink Rumskey, you gotta chase it with Bung's Old Style Honey Nut Porter Blonde Belgian Chocolate Wheat Waffle Ale.

Besides the hints of oak/vanilla that you pickup in most Dark Rums, the only two that I've tried that could be mistaken for Bourbon are:

-Mount Gay Extra Old
-Newfoundland Screech Rum

I can't remember which, but one of the Flor de Caña bottlings* has a light smokiness in the finish that you might enjoy. Cheers.

*I want to say the Centenario 12 but it may be the 7.

Put some fruit juice in it. Spin around, that's how you're found. And Bob's yer uncle. Yes.

If found, please return to Grumpy, postal box 3592. No reward given.

I, for one am sold. Though I do wonder where it was that I actually went to on hockey tour 3 years ago. I do remember heading down a long dead-end road at one point, and lots of bicycles. And that the driver who knew his way around "Belgium" mysteriously disappeared days before we set off

Curious as to your interest in rum. Is it work-related? I had this boss who would buy an ice-cold case of tall neck Budweiser for after work each and everyday when I was 17. Of course, there were six of us workers fresh in from the hot, dusty desert.

But that's how I learned to appreciate ice cold beer, any beer at all.

If your interest is purely from scientific Drunkard research/study, then indeed, sage advice here:

Spiced rum is a pleasant inauguration into rums.

Then hit the hard stuff, this shit that's clear and overproofed.
