Al Murray is a historian. He could come to Santa Monica near where I live and sell out his act. There are a lot of British ex-pats here. He would have no problem.

Something small.
What would it take to get a bowhead whale drunk?* And what what would it behave like then?

No, soaking up the remains of a sunk oil carrier does not count, this time

A bowhead whale would probably drink an entire day's production from your local brewery before it got tipsy. They would get real friendly and try to cuddle up with your boat if you're out there whale watching.

Check out the new topic in PWoB, where Al Murray declares his intention to stand for Parliament.

Some good news for you: according to sociologists, psychologists, HR people etc, hard work leads to hard drinking*.

* Which doesn't explain why so many students** (especially those that do 15-20 hours per week worth of studies (i.e. attending lectures and reading up on their subjects)) seem to spend most of their time in a state on endrunkenment.
** This doesn't apply to any students who are members of this fine Board.

And further to the above, here is a whole bunch of Booze News.

If I work too hard (which I never do. that`s why I`m poor), well when I occasionally do I fall asleep half-buzzed. Get one job done but the important one is slacking. Conclusion is work keeps me from drinking, thusly: avoid work at all costs

Work is made by popular design.
It is so far up your ass that it hit your brain thinking: If I don`t, I`m not cool enough.
How many people do really like their jobs? 9? Excluding booznik who runs the NSA (come on, their coffee machine atleast!) and feels boozicated by his bos.
Work needs to be done, okay. But don`t rush it, time for drink dammit! Your postcard is a day late, deal with it and have another shot for fucksake!!!
Drink!

Are you drinking because you're working long hours, or are you working long hours to justify drinking?
Working long hours will justify avoiding the wife and drinking. Best reason I can think of.

That wife is broken. Do not have such a wife. Get a better wife! Sharpen her like a knife, on the keening stone, for more drunken depravity. That is a good life.

So that's why your wife is sharp as a tack. I knew there was a reason.
