Does anyone here have to deal with a family member with mental health issues?

Well, I have a family member with mental health issues, however I make it a point not to deal with them.

Better things to spend my time and energy on. Like chasing the happy goblins at the bottom of a bottle.

Not a family member, but close. He was in a institution for a year. I was visiting him once a week. And I can tell you, being around these poor people for a grand total of 50 hours (one hour a week was definitly enough for my sanity) that year, I had a really hard time going there any longer... it helped him kind of and now he is on medication, don`t know how much longer, but it`s been this way for years. Still can`t relate to his problems though, seems to be bipolar.
No booze sadly for him, poor bastard always has to endure our drunken asses when going out or well, basically every weekend

I think so, but I have never confirmed that they were batshit even though evidence suggests this indeed may be the case. Of course, they very well could say the same about me.

I don't, God bless. But if you do, if he/she is psychotic - particularly paranoid schizophrenic but also bipolar - unless they are carefully medicated, they shouldn't be at the party. If it's a neurosis - still can ruin a party but they probably won't kill anyone - see if they have meds that they take to relax and ensure that they take 'em - and leave some for you.

Oh yes, my family has a long and noble tradition of being mentally interesting.

Mentally interesting. I like the way you put that. I might borrow that--"We're not crazy. We're simply mentally interesting."
