Re: A Sad Day for British Comedy.

Post by booznik »

My good Canadian friend, who introduced me to Bottom nearly 2 decades ago, and I, are currently drinking and watching Apocalypse. The Bottom episode where Rik meets Death in the form of Eddie on stilts.

By coincidence, Graham Chapman was the Python who answered the door to Death (in The Meaning of Life), and he went first too.

...

I can't remember the last time I was sad while watching Bottom, but dammit, I will laugh just the same.

You are going nowhere until I get my 45 quid.

During this informal wake for Rik, I'll submit one of my favorite expressions of his. From the Bottom episode Culture. The prince of goofy looks.

Another great moment was in the film Eat The Rich, when the famous Nosher Powell grabbed him by the collar. Great days. And shitloads of Motörhead.

The drinking will continue until the nostalgia improves.

And a Mr. Jolly set photo for posterity. You awesome bloke, you.

Dammit, more booze to combat the sad, and Bottom is still playing. We're now on Contest, the episode that was meant to be the pilot, but they changed it to Smells. And now it's the one ep that doesn't fit with all the rest.

Glass raised to unbridled creativity. Ya know, back when MYV had some credibility and was kinda cool (even though sucking on the teat of bloated music producers)

That's when I found out about the Young Ones. Remember watching episodes trying to figure out if his punk buddy Vyvyan was truly a boy or simply one badass chick.

Of course, now I know better.

Another treat!

Here are all the episodes of Filthy, Rich and Catflap, the extremely under-rated follow-up to "The Young Ones", for you to enjoy.

Episode 1) Dead Milkmen

Episode 2) Game Show

Episode 3) Dinner Party

Episode 4) Death in the Family

Episode 5) Breakfast

Episode 6) Smear Campaign

Watch with much booze.

The Mail with pics from Rik's funeral. Ye gods, seeing Nigel Planer looking that old is jarring.

Peetie, you need to hang out more often. We always keep a stool open with your name on it.
