Drinking at work

Post by Wingman »

So I'm at work, which is sales, and i'm walking around my town, and spot a new wine-tasting room that just opened. we have several products that do well in wine-tasting rooms, so this is a doubly good thing for me. so i go in, introduce myself, etc., and the owner and i are talking about one of our products, a chocolate cookie, that would go well with a red, and he says, "you probably can't sample now, can you?"

at first i didn't understand what he meant. i started to say, "no, i don't have any chocolate cookies with me, but i can bring you some." then i realized he thought because i was at work, i couldn't have a TASTE of wine.

this guy makes and sells wine for a living! when did this happen? is this normal? i mean, it was in the course of my duties to determine if the wine and cookie would go well together! (had to have 2 tastes, though, just to make sure.) what's wrong with people?

thanks for listening.

I'm by no means a "chocoholic", in fact, I've never tried chocohol, but chocolate and bourbon go swell together.

fudge brownies and pinot noir go well together, too, it turns out. i often crave dark chocolate about an hour after i stop drinking. turns out there are flavanoids in it, which are good for the liver.

I'd be lying if I said I'd never drank hot chocolate and (100 proof) peppermint schnapps.

Sometimes I like to warm up after shoveling in the morning.

I drink on the job... moving on.

I always drink on the job. Otherwise, work has no meaning. Or life. Or both.

Drinking at work

Post by TheDrunkardAnglo »

I thought I'd start a thread to see if anyone drinks at work.
My questions are:

1. Do you drink at work?
2. What do you drink at work?
3. Does your work influence your usual drink choice?
4. Does your boss know?
5. If not how do you conceal it?
6. How awesome is it?

This is a profound question, well stated.

Is the Modern Drunkard Lifestyle a 24-7 , .08+ objective?

Buk was, by God, and many of you all-stars, but I have trouble going all-in for a couple of years yet.

9 hours of un-drunkeness per day is all I can afford. Except weekends. Weekends I'm toast before breakfast.

I used to, on occasion at my last job, though only once to the point of a decent buzz and that was sort of an accident. Normally, it was a nip from the flask here and there to keep actual undrunkenness at bay. This was wildly irresponsible considering what the job entailed, but everything turned out alright so I'd be lying if I said I felt guilty about it.

Fun fact though, there were metal detectors at the door as you exited the facility which meant I had to bring my medicine in a plastic flask.

Hell yes.

There's always the morning shower beer, but that doesn't count. That's just waking up. Every once in a while I'll have a nip of black rum from this small flask. Black coffee to wake up the brain cells, adds to my amazing black breath.

I would love to drink at work, however the fact that I work with 480v electrical power and 120v on down control voltages, means I have to abstain.

I sure do miss it though. Back when I was in the Air Force we were ALLOWED a two drink lunch. Yes. You read that right. There was a strip club right off the main gate about two blocks out. They had those convenience store hot dog rollers there with dogs on them. Buns and fixin's beside it. As long as tou got the drink minimum, 2, dogs were free.

The place was packed with Airman everyday of the work week at lunch.

Damn I miss that place and that time.

I worked at 6 bars and the only place I didn't drink was ironically when I worked the VIP bar at the baseball stadium. Most of those bars I was half in the bag most of the time I worked. Always high-functioning though. At my current job it's government work, so not worth taking a chance.

I run a candy warehouse so I keep a bottle of peppermint schnapps in the bottom desk drawer. It's there, look there behind the employee and company info files.
Just to keep the edge off, don't ya know.

I don't drink at work for safety reasons, because I I do a lot of driving. I'd drink at meetings if the atmosphere seemed right. I turned up to let and electrician in, still drunk, last week. I don't think I'll hear the end of it. He is never around before ten but for some reason he phoned me at 7am and caught me off guard, like a zombie. I had barely got into bed.
