Rum advice. And hello again!

Post by Rip Rufus »

I haven't been here in ages, I missed you guys!

I have a question about rum: I've got a buddy that loves kraken spiced rum. I'm getting him a housewarming gift of Blackheart (since everyone else will get him kraken and I'm a contrarian). How do the two compare?

Also, is there a mobile version of this board yet? It's a bitch on my cellphone as is...

Kraken is a bit on it's own as a dark spiced rum. It bridges the gap between the two categories quite nicely,so either get him something really different or pre-batch a kraken old fashioned or similar. If you go the latter route,I can happily whip up a recipe for you

RIIIIIIP!!

I'm a voddie drinker, as you might recall, THANKS FOR NOTHIN' HBE WHO SENT ME GIN THAT STANDS UNOPENED IN MY LIQUOR CABINET, but plan B is spice rum - is Captain quite outta the question? I've had Sailor. No offense, but that Sailor can't make a patch on the Captain's ass. Sailor's a wee bit too sweet - more appropriate for 15 year old boys to get into drinkin' - Captain is for us men.

Welcome back.

Here's my advice: skip the spice and introduce your friend to a good, dark plantation rum from Barbados or Jamaica, or a nice Nicaraguan made from sugar cane rather than molasses. Just a suggestion. There are tons to choose from, an entire potable universe. Good luck and let us know how it turned out.

At the risk of angering my friend Dingbat, I agree with you. My buddy is a solid drunkard himself, he'll be happy with any of these options.
