Why must soberness exist

Wouldn't it be good if drunk was the default state, and you had to drink now and again to get undrunk.

But half the fun is getting drunk, that slow (or fast!) decent into another state. The steps along the path to a more care free and positive state.

If we had to drink to get undrunk, we would be fools to do so, we would do it for neccessity, such as driving to work, and it would become a chore for work, rather than a pleasure to embrace. Companies, would produce nothing but everclear, as it would be a functional tool and the likes of fine whisky would vanish.

Imagine also , getting together with friends on a Saturday to get undrunk!

While the drunk state is the preferred option, always remember that it is the journey, not the destination my friend.
"That's only a problem if you stop drinking"

"Nationality? I'm a drunkard, and that makes me a man of the world"

"The word "pub" should never need to be followed by the word "why""

one could argue that it is not pleasure we seek from drinking but rather a temporary cessation of the normal state of human experience, so if the default state was drunkenness we would drink in order to get undrunk. we'd be soberholics even if that state wasn't as fun or pleasurable.
Just keep livin'

This.

Imagine if we`re all in a purple haze and acid trips are the normal state of mind.
