Bob Dylan sued by Old Heaven Hill

The Old Heaven Hill distillery of Bardstown, KY has filed a lawsuit against the artist Bob Dylan for trademark infringement. The issue? His new line of whiskey Heaven's Door, named after the song of the same name (written by Dylan, famously covered by Guns n' Roses). Here's the story.

Not sure how I feel about this. I like Evan Williams (made by Old Heaven Hill) but it's also a bit of a stretch to file a civil lawsuit. Can't everybody just fuck off and get along?

Okay, after a shot of Evan Williams and a $3 Hamm's special, I've decided that it's pretty lame of Old Heaven Hill to get all touchy and lawyery over the issue. Not that I'm a huge Dylan fan, but leave the guy the fuck alone already. Like, nobody owns heaven, man.

The names aren't that similar. I predict that they'll lose the suit, with all of my legal expertise.

The infringement lawsuits like this are bullshit. It happens in craft beer all the time. Mostly it's just used by the bigger guys to bully the smaller emerging craft brewers. Much the same way all the bigger craft brewers bitch about InBev and MillerCoors bullying them. Same douchery.

If your product can't stand out on quality alone, nitpicking names isn't going to make a difference.

Words of wisdom sir. You know, I had been wanting to sample their wares this weekend, but after this bit of doughbaggery came about, I will now avoid their attorneys at all cost.

Of course, if it's cost free, I ain't gonna turn down EW...
