I just realized that Blue Moon Ale is a wheat beer (ale). I love it.

actually its supposed to be a Belgian white ale. It's made with wheat, yes, but it is technically a different style than Heffer whizzin.

Widmer Heff right from the source is pretty dam good. (Just on the other side of town.) Sticking some beer in a bottle just ruins the mojo.

It still fails to point out nearly all hefeweizen taste like baloney sandwiches. I can't be the only one who knows this.

I agree with the baloney assessment. I definitely taste a mixture of lunch meat and formeldehyde (sp?) in all weizens. Granted, I haven't had too many, but it's not a preferred style of mine. Good article though, thanks for sharing.

I've been all over the Magic Hat Hocus Pocus and the Long Trail Blackbearry Wheat, which is an ale. Magic Hat's Circus Boy was decent albeit a little pedestrian in flavor I really love the hefe's and wheats in general.

I love Franziskaner, it's sold around here. Some crazy dude turned me on to it a few years back...

Ommegang

This is one of my favorite Belgian brews. I don't know what they mean by "burgundian" brew, but I like it.

I found this on beerhunter.com.
THE FRENCH INFLUENCE: BURGUNDIAN FLAVOURS
Belgium was once part of Burgundy, and honours that memory. In Belgium, to call someone "a Burgundian" is an admiring term. When the Flemings and Walloons talk of their most robust beers, they call them: "The Burgundies of Belgium". These beers are not just high in alcohol, they are also very complex in aroma and flavour, like the wines of Burgundy.
I also found this on wikipedia.
In Belgium and The Netherlands, a 'Burgundian lifestyle' still means 'enjoyment of life, good food, and extravagant spectacle'.
If you need more details (History Warning), just look on wikipedia under such topics as: Burgundians, Burgundian Netherlands, Low Countries, Seventeen Provinces, and Duchy of Burgundy. That should keep you busy for a while.

The next time some website asks for my location, I shall type in "Duchy Of Burgundy".
That is a fine brew.

Ommegang is out of Cooperstown, NY, so they are generally less expensive than Chimay, Delerium Tremens, etc. Good stuff all round.

Anchor "Summer Beer"

Post by Martini Time »

For some odd reason, I'm not a big fan of wheat beers. I enjoy the traditional German ones, but I usually find the "modern" wheat beers too dense, too sweet, and just not to my liking. Last week, the wife brought home a sixer of Anchor "Summer Beer". Since it is FINALLY "summer" in SF, I felt obligated to indulge in this beverage as a post-lawn mowing respit.

DAMN!!! It was delicious. It's an incredibly sophisticated and balanced brew. Not too sweet, and not too bitter. Remarkably refreshing. Incredibly thick head. The team at Anchor has been brewing this fine offering since 1984, and it's really a nod to the original Teutonic tradition, as well as to that of the "New World".

I give this thing 5 olives!! Enjoy!

They've never made an oktoberfest beer have they? The xmas ale that I've tried was rather good.
