really? i used to find it in d.c. really easily. they even had it on tap at one of the bars on campus. i do like me the turbodog. my boyfriend's been stealing the frosted turbodog pint glasses. maybe i'll post a pic later.Uncle Gary wrote:I'm very fond of Abita Turbodog, but it's hard as hell to find up here and pretty pricey when I do. Definitely a payday beer.
the pecan harvest is out too - pretty decent, though i was disappointed it wasn't more pecan-y. if you can find the strawberry harvest when it's out (summertime!), it's really good, too. even if you're not into fruity beers. much better than purple haze. haven't tried the christmas ale yet this year. too many seasonals out at once - i can't keep up! i know, it's shameful.

I'm not sure where Scotch Town is, but I can get Turbodog on tap even here in Milwaukee, WI at a cajun restaurant called Crawdaddy's.
I love Abita as well. Turbodog is also my favorite, but I'm quite fond of their Fleur di Lis Restoration Ale as well as their Red Ale. This IPA intrigues me.

Dogfish Head Chateau Jiahu
So I go to the Old Toad this morning to drop off my menu choices for the New Year's Eve beer dinner, and get to talking with Jules about Christmas and family etc., when we get on the subject of Dogfish Head brewery in Delaware, who are known for their IPAs, and how I don't like a lot of their products since I don't like overly hopped beers, when she asks me if I ever tried their Chateau Jiahu. I say no and she disappears in the back for a minute and comes out with a bottle and gives it to me with a Merry Christmas. Tonight will be happy.
Drink your fucking drink, how about that? Stop the fuckin' presses, isn't it genius??

Genesee Bock and the Re-Branding of Beers
This was the first beer handed to me when I went to the Mag Bar last night. Not too bad, I think; it was really cold, so...Anyway, this is the first that I have seen any Genny products (other than the JW Dundee Honey Brown) down here. The can looked like a Sprite can; you could drink this in the park in broad daylight and not get in trouble. I noticed one of those distributor provided vinyl signs up and it had me wondering if they are making a push to make this Rochester working man's beer the next PBR.

Re: Genesee Bock
Years ago, some local liquor stores were carrying Genny products here in Chicago, only they priced them as semi-premium.

Re: Genesee Bock
Ages ago, before I was of age, there was a bar here called Fat Cats. It was one of the first 'alternative' bars in town (and by alternative, I mean IRS label records-type.) They had a huge beer list before imports became fashionable, which was before the microbrew explosion. (You know, back in the "hey, this is that fancy Michelobe beer" days.) Anyway, their cheepest beer was Rolling Rock @ 95 cents a bottle. This was beofre they re-branded (I hate buisiness speak) themselves. This is what a lot of local small macrobrews are tryin to do this past decade. Fuck, Iron City Light is a "premium domestic" now. Fuck. That.

Desparados
Desparados beer - infused with tequila. Worth trying if you can find it. Despite it's name, it's brewed in France.

Re: Desparados
Funny this gets posted. Was reminiscing last night about the time when my pal and I - both 17 at the time - went back to his place with a crate of the stuff.
The best part was the distance that we carried the crate. The beer probably wasn't bad, either. I've only drank it a handful of times since.
Wait...maybe that was Salitos. Anyway, Desparados is worth trying.
