Mixed drinks became popular during prohibition because the rot gut booze being sold in most speak easies couldn't be tolerated when you drank it straight. Maybe you should take that as a sign to mix that stuff with something, like Coke or maybe club soda.

As a rye drinker, I used to always get it for Christmas because people (especially older) hear "rye" and think Canadian Whiskey. But nah, it's just wretched.
